The progression of Doctor Who over the last decade reminds me of the Soviet Union.

It's been getting more and more progressive with every episode and simultaneously less and less viewers. But rather than anyone addressing this or try to reform it the solution is to make it even more progressive even though that's what's losing its viewers. Now they've reached the apex, rewriting it so the first incarnation of the doctor was a black female child refugee and the ratings are still going lower and lower with no sign of slowing down. The BBC is throwing away good money on this and the fans have never been more dissatisfied, the only people who still enjoy it are blind dogmatic ideologues who tell themselves that nothing is wrong because it's doing all the right progressive things.

Having said that, it is blatantly clear Jodie didn't get the role through ability, which would have rationally been less problematic for me. She got it purely to tick the boxes and move the overton window a little bit further left. She isn't right for the role, she doesn't suit the character at all irrespective of gender. Diverse casting choices is one thing but making diverse casting choices purely because they're diverse and not based on meritocracy is an ultimate and obnoxious state of hypocrisy from the BBC.

The finale is definitely worth a watch. World Enough and Time, and The Doctor Falls are fantastic. Try to go in unspoiled if you can.

Putting a baby in a TV show makes the ratings drop. The writers can't do anything with it. Its not a character and it can't act. Therefore there is no plot to be developed for it. It becomes a Macguffin or "Magic baby."

Drawing relationships between characters, and in this case, "doing a prequel" does not really equate to content or plot either. For example, River Soong being the daughter of companions Amy and Rory. (btw, why is it black?). Their relationship reveal did not change or mesh with the story. These facts become trivia.

Time travel allows the entire history of Doctor Who to be re-written and its a double edged sword. In this case I think it was a weak origin story. More of a vignette.
