Flavor Girls

I have zero interest in magical girls but I figured some people here would be interested
>A new comic series is on the way from Loïc Locatelli-Kournwsky (Persephone): Flavor Girls, to be published by BOOM! Studios imprint Archaia. The story follows a young woman who finds herself called to join a group of magical heroes who each derive their power from the Earth in order to face off against a dangerous extraterrestrial threat.
>“Naoko, Camille, and V are the Dragonfruit, Pomegranate, and Artichoke FLAVOR GIRLS, Sacred Fruit Guardians of Earth! They defend the Mother Tree—the source of their power—from the threat of ever-looming aliens, who landed twelve years ago and whose motives regarding the planet are yet unknown…
>“Sara’s a young woman studying to become an international peacekeeper until one day she gets caught up in an alien attack. In the midst of battle, she is chosen by the Mother Tree as the newest FLAVOR GIRL with a sacred duty to defend the Earth and all its inhabitants. There’s just one problem… she’s never fought an alien in her life and she has no clue what she’s doing. Can she figure out her powers and her place on the team in time to help save the world?
>“Locatelli-Kournwsky is a French artist and illustrator based out of Tokyo, Japan. He has published original graphic novel Ni Dieu Ni Maitre with Lombard Editions, and is best known for his original graphic novels Pocahontas with Pegasus Books and Persephone with Archaia.”
>“Flavor Girls started as a few characters I imagined years ago but over time they’ve evolved into an entire world full of superheroes, aliens, adventure, and magic,” said Locatelli-Kournwsky in a quote included in the release. “I’m very proud to invite you all into this world where heroes come from the most unexpected places and the Earth is the most precious resource we have in the fight against a global threat!”

looks interesting but I know it'll get boring fast.

He apparently made these characters back in the early 2010's
It's kind of like if Faust did a comic for Milky Way & The Galaxy Girls today

>Boom

>canceled in 4 issues when the book doesn't get picked up for a Netflix adapt.

Boom has never actually canceled a series for that reason to my knowledge
Ongoings being short lived is usually because of bad sales right off the gate (even for creator owned standards)

At the very least it'll be pretty to look at and the short stories were solid

yeah it'll probably devolve into preachy feminazi crap

Incidentally, why do they get mad when men don't want to watch or read media that is guaranteed to have this crap? Do they think all men should be like Moviebob or Dobson and cheer for it because it's a "virtue" to consume media not made for them?

The writer isn't American and is a frog living in Japan
I think we should be good

Has anyone read Persephone?

made for corruption

Fuck off spammer

>Pineapple crown turns into helicopter
Sara officially cutest and bestest girl.

Absolutely based. Magical Girl Corruption is the thinking man's choice.

Art looks good
Girls are cute
Solid impressions so far

I'm more of a ryona guy

So, what the fuck is this? A comic? A show? A ptich? Too mahoshojo for my taste, but I'll check back for the porn.

I'm not sold on the pineaple vore thing though.

>What is reading comprehension
It's a comic that's apparently been in the pipeline for years

I can storytime it later if you want to

Also an acceptable choice.

>Naoko is born in Saitama, where she spent 13 years of her life before the arrival of Agartha, and the terrible events that followed. Believing she is responsible for the death of her best friend Rumiko, she is haunted by guilt, and lost the support of her neighborhood and relatives. Since the day she has been chosen to be a Flavor Girl, she is training as hard as she can, focusing on defeating the monsters that took away her childhood.
>She only find peace of mind when she's swimming, an activity she is practising everyday. When she’s in the water,
she can finally relax and cast away the demons of her past… She is the eldest and the most mature of the Flavor Girls, she has a strong sense of duty and sacrifice. For these reasons she is considered the "leader" of the FG, the one you can rely on and the little protégée of Master Himiko.

>Camille comes from Cape Town in South Africa. She is extrovert and carefree, she loves to make sarcastic jokes and see the fun in every situation. Thanks to her attitude, she is appreciated by everyone : she's "the glue who makes the four Flavor Girls stick together peacefully", says Himiko. She smiles and jokes a lot, but like many shiny people, she also hides a darker part. She can be really impulsive and short-tempered. When she's angry, she can lose her mind and commit terrible acts. She doesn't see the point of having powers and not being able to use them to make justice - her own justice - someday resulting of her "taking care" of her family problems, and causing a huge mess. She listens to music whenever she can. She loves all kind of music, has a passion for bats and she never misses an occasion to drink with her friends !

>V is an enigma. We don’t know where she’s from and what is her real name. Everyone calls her “V”, because she brings Victory to humans even in desperate situations. When people are seing her in action, their panic turns to confidence, and they start to raise their hands, calling for the victory to come. It is said that she never lost a battle : V is the most powerful Flavor Girl, she defeats her opponents with an astonishing ease ! But she never takes pride or enjoy it. She doesn't speak much and prefers to stay alone, although she enjoys drinking moments with Camille (even if she doesn't get all her jokes). She likes to fix things and visit arts museums (alone).

>Sara recently became a Flavor Girl after being chosen by the Pineapple Sacred Fruit. Until now she was totaly devoted to her studies : she wants to work for the United Nation in Geneva. She's coming from a happy vegan family near the French and Swiss border. Her favorites activities usually involves napping and watching Korean dramas. Studies comes in last position (although she's pretending the opposite). She looks innocent at first sight but don't be fooled, she loves to do pranks, can use complex tricks and cunning tactics to find a way to avoid training or taking a two-hour nap. She understands and speak (although not without many mistakes) many languages (in order to work for the UN, and because it became some sort of hobby),and she can be (when not drunk) a "redoutable" poker player.

That'd be nice but I'm busy tomorrow and Wednesday is when new comics come out so it'd probably struggle with all the other storytimes in the catalog

I thought its a little gimmicky but what makes you think that? I mean, its a guy writing it, and it looks like its the right type of autist that is really into the mechanic and world building of the lore, so I think it might not be so bad.

I was gonna agree but then I saw
>Vegan
Camille is the best girl
The others can't cook for shit

That creature looks like EVA-01 without it's armor on.

There's not a lot of Marvel comics today
I know that because I storytime most of them

I was more reminded of Envy from FMA

For once can't you be somewhat optimistic?

those girls are way too old to use those childish pretty cure themes

that sort of art ""style"" is a hype vacuum to be honest.

>flavor girls
>asian isn't umami powered
>black isn't soul powered
>mexican isn't scoville powered
>white isn't water powered

Looks good
>artichoke girl

years? the synopsis looks like one of those weekly "oc thread" pitch that leads nowhere. All this reads like an hyperactive autist DA page presentation at best, it's random over random over animey reference. If it got a cartoon you just know their transfo would be traced from sailor moon.

on the other hand, they fight "alien invaders" with the zeal of an alt right redneck gang.

>white isn't water powered
Come on user, we all know white should be milk powered.

Looks like Steven Universe wannabe Sailor Moon crap. Neat idea but it'll be bland adventure where nothing really happens and no one actually grows.

>ho tree bro, give me magic power and make it wayyyyy strong
>*artichoke power for white people*
>hmmmm this is way powerful I can FEEL IT

Okay it's up

>Her pineapple hair vores enemies
Oh geez

>doesn't take place in flavortown
>power not given by a dude with a flame pattern shirt
dropped

what would their corrupted forms be like
artificial flavors?

who the hell would engineer artifical artichoke flavour?

demons and madmen

The designs are cute, if a little stiff.

Flavors of Meat.

>Flavor Girls
wait a moment, this is just a cheap high guardian spice knock off

Attached: FDT5-u5VUAEZL0M.jpg (750x754, 113.09K)

>Camille
Isn't that a man's name?

...no?

Is the person who did the background art for steven universe the person who did this?

Art looks nice but the premise isn't something I'd typically read.

I think Flavor Girls might actually predate it going into the artists Twitter and blog

pretty cure has been doing food themed girls for years

High fructose corn syrup

Artichoke has flavor?

Faux anime beanmouth smooth style sailor moon ripoff.
Holy shit that's like the only "girly" comic type they do now.

I mean hell the premise is eerily similar to high guardian spice
