Yes. Wonder how Spielberg of all people ended up adapting this shit. It was horrible. A dystopian, late capitalist nightmare pretending it's an escapist adventure movie.

This film was some real out of touch shit but I still found it more enjoyable than anything made in the reddit mould. I'll take a bad movie that doesn't give off that snarky self aware redditor feeling over a "good" movie that does.

This is why Ready Player One, Venom and Alita are the somewhat based blockbusters of the last few years.

Summer Wars is better

>"omg no dont meet me irl im so ugly"
>literally only has a pigmented birthmark

I'm a huge Spielberg fanboy and I consider this one of his weakest movies.

Pedo lover

She looked far better than her avatar even. What were they thinking?

It's a couple years too late.

Put on a VR cardboard, fire up VRchat and you get the authentic experience of this movie

Ready Player One is nowhere near the enjoyment and quality of either Venom or Alita. Using them in the same sentence just to fit in with Yea Forums is disingenuous and pathetic.

The book is so much worse

Artemis was fat in the book so it made more sense

fuck you i liked it

They'll pretend they didn't, but Yea Forums loved this trash when it came out.

>Summer Wars
You mean the anime movie? That was überkino.

Venom is funny AF, Alita is a great movie (ruined by Hugo, what a shitty and dumb character) Ready Player One is the worst shitfest that I've seen since 2010

I hated it first time I tried watching. Watched it again and enjoyed it

This is one of those films which sound great on paper but realistically is almost impossible to make a coherent story via just the visual medium. Maybe a long-form series could of worked, but the budget would of needed to be massive.

The sad thing is, it's actually Spielberg's best blockbuster/sci-fi movie since Minority Report. Spielberg's Oscar bait movies like Lincoln and Bridge of Spies have at least been passable, but his attempts to recreate the blockbuster magic of his youth have all been insane failures: War of the Worlds, Crystal Skull, Tintin, and The BFG.

At least Ready Player One had decent visuals and action scenes that look like a real movie unlike Crystal Skull and BFG, the problem is that the source material just wasn't a very good story.

That's why I never watched it. I knew it would be.

>it's actually Spielberg's best blockbuster/sci-fi movie since Minority Report.
That isn't saying much. Spielberg just sucks forever now.

But, user, Tintin was a lot better than Ready Player One.
Also I wish he stops doing 3D animation, he goes overboard with this shit.

starts off meh but then gets really awful when they get to the Overlook Hotel. absolute trash

>War of the Worlds,
I remember war of the world's being much better than this movie. There are several memorable sequences from that film. The only part of ready player one I can remember is the shining part and that wasn't even good it was just extremely strange.

If they didn't have ioi the movie would have been 30% better

The Shining scene was horrible

The book wasn't all the great, either. The golden age of sci fi and cyberpunk is over. There's a handful who are trying to keep it alive, but it's a sea of mediocrity now. It kills me, you go to any corporate site for books, and it's nothing but them pushing WOMEN sci and fantasy writers, who all are about the same level of suck.
Hollywood will never "get" science fiction. Women will never "get" science fiction.

But we still have the old books, and movies. They haven't banned them, yet.

Audiences don't like actual ugly people. Same reason they changed Hester's appearance in Mortal Engines.

Pls explain the casting of the new SW movies

I'm talking actual ugly, not meme ugly.

Yeah, any time I see an article about a new sci-fi book it’s always some woman being obviously pushed by the powers that be. I’m working on a book myself but I can’t imagine how I’m going to market it considering I refuse to fill it with lessons about transgenders and feminism.
