I liked Outlaw Star better.

You can say that about any anime. Most of them are heavily influenced by 40s-70s western sci-fi and pop culture, but at least Bebop wore those influences openly without shame. And it's certainly got more substance than that Neon Evangelion crap.

It's the only anime I can say I actually enjoyed and will admit to people I watched, and even recommend to some. It isn't amazing or anything but as someone that despises anime it showed me there is some merit to the medium.

I watched it when I was 16 and thought it was a solid 6/10. I watched it again 4 years later and it was an easy 10/10. Couldn't tell you why since I'm a brainlet but I can understand why people think it's pretentious and overrated.
For me though, Eva has always been the most pretentious and overrated anime. I think I saw that for the first time when I was 18.

I like the more singular episodic nature. It contrasts to most anime series. Though I think it neither a boon nor a benefit to the series. It's just different from most anime. The individual episodes of pulp sci fi crime tales with, yes, an amazing soundtrack.

A lot of zoomers consider anything that isn’t overarching to be a waste of time. Media is a plot delivery system to shovel in their gullet and aspects like an episodic three act structure, themes, visual direction and production value are beyond them. Bebop is one of the great episodic shows, if it was overarching it couldn’t have done so many different things with the concept and world.
