The only hint the movie gives is when Alita asks how it stays up, "magic?", ido says "no something stronger, engineering". There was going to be a short scene between hugo and alita where hego notices a star that never moves and realizes it's the space dock on the other side of the elevator but it got cut.
But if you know the source material or read any of the production design stuff they're not shy about admitting it's a space elevator.

Zalem is actually just one of the sky cities, you see the space elevators attach to an orbital ring and then extend off into the sister cities in space and there were cities all around that ring. Mars was trying to take them out because it could cripple earth's ability to mount attacks into space.

You tend to focus on different things each time. I've seen it four times and that's a new record for me. On my fourth viewing for instance I was watching the audiences and extras like a hawk really taking in all those random cybernetic parts each of them have.
Still I don't think I've watch any movie 11 times in my life, LOTR trilogy is maybe at 7 or 8 times, Robocop and Predator are maybe 6 times. I'll probably be watching Alita again once it's on bluray but I plan to shelf it after that.

Good, but not great. It's hard to shine through as a relative newbie, young actor when you're surrounded by literal Oscar-winners and the powerhouse that is Rosa Salazar. Hugo was more of a plot device than anything, necessary for Alita's character development. He was by no means one of my favorite parts of the movie, but I don't think the actor is as bad as you and others have painted him out to be.

Alita will have to somehow defeat him, maybe with Nova's or Ido's help? whoever thinks that Zapan has become too dangerous and has antinanomachines technology
After all that Alita leaves Iron City because she thinks all the destruction caused by Zapan is her fault

Danvers is never layered. She's unstoppable and overpowered the whole time, annoying and in-your-face about it, and she doesn't evolve or grow or change. Alita, on the other hand, almost dies several times throughout the film, only to be saved by her friends or by the villain showing mercy. But after each encounter, she learns from her mistakes and grows stronger and tougher and more keen on victory and protecting her loved ones. I'd argue Alita is a much better, realistic, healthy version of feminism and female-empowerment while Craptain Mahvel is the radical, must be perfect and unchecked, annoying version of feminism.

Everyone wants to go to Zoloft or whatever the Elysium city is called but unlike Elysium we never understand or have a reason to think there is a point to going, the reality is that Iron City is a pretty chill chinatown type of place with oranges and chocolate and burritos and kids playing on roller blades, so the entire thesis makes no fucking sense
remember how elysium had what matt damon needed to make his daughter not sick or whatever?
