We know that the closest to an official, endorsed stance on the title is indeed a french community manager answering in-character on a website saying that Auriana came up with the name as "LOL y rock" (indeed the spanish y) as a stand-in for laughs and music.

We also know that's it's bullshit invented on the spot because it does sound like bullshit of the highest order and we do actually know from one of the show staff that the actual origin is the lollipop->"pop and rock are both music styles"->lolirock thing. If the number of L's bothers you, it's not a problem for the french.

Finally, it's also impossible they didn't know of the double entendre because most of the creative staff are massive weebs and the show's idea was sparked by Minky Momo and used Sailor Moon and Pretty Cure as models.
