Marvel Mystery Comics #2 Storytime

And we're back!
Marvel Comics renamed itself to Marvel Mystery Comics for its second issue. This issue also marks the end of 1939. Let's take a look at the continued adventures of the Human Torch, the Sub-Mariner, Ka-Zar, and The Angel, along with new character American Ace.
I'm not doing Masked Raider because nobody gives a fuck about Masked Raider.

I love how excited Torch gets over the racecars

I find it interesting that these common crooks are actually really smart. Ross designed his own plane with incendiary charges and Sardo from the last issue was a chemist.

I like how the narration takes the time out to insult his clothes

The dude's face in the top left of the last page gets me every time

And now, The Angel

And now for the adventures of our favorite sperg

I like how the minute he gets some time to himself without being distracted, he immediately "I'm gonna rob these fuckers."

Murder, assault, vandalism, terrorism, planned robbery, and now kidnapping. What wacky hijinks will our hero get into next?

And now for American Ace, a new character. While it says his name is Perry Webb, it was later revealed that Timely Comics published propaganda pieces on superheroes that changed some things. His real name is Ace Masters. And he's gay.
On that note, if Namor is this bad in the sanitized version, how horrible was he in reality? The series Marvels implies that at the very least he was naked constantly.

In comics they used to have these written stories along with the actual comics.
Here's an Angel one, with the first mention of WWII in a Marvel comic.

And finally, here's Ka-Zar.

Nice infodump, Angel.

Great that we kept it alive then.

Namor was an asshole, at least initially, but his Golden Age comics were great, from the little bit I've read. I like the approach they took with him. I'm looking forward to the reprint collection

True, someday he'll get his due.

Thank op.
