it's a police procedural book but deals with a bunch of supernatural stuff. exists in the same world as The Darkness and The Angelus and is the balance between the two. read 1-24 where Christina Z stops writing, then skip to about 60 ish, or skip to the Ron Marz run, where he starts world building a TON

I mean just look at that and compare it with Sejic's Witchblade here: It's the complete opposite of what made Top Cow huge in the late 90s which was flashy and detailed art with care and passion put into it.

Witchblade was my favorite comic back then and Christina Z. was my hero so that definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I don't have anything against Caitlin Kittredge, I liked some other comics she wrote, but it's annoying how people today will just look at the cover of an old comic and assume a lot about it and the people who read it.

I agree. The Dani becoming a lesbian arc was handled fantastically. It was searingly sexy without being sleezy. It was never preachy.
The 1 exception I can think of was that 1 horrible moment with Dani using the Witchblade to carve open a guys hand when he tries to hook up with her at a club and doesn't do anything forceful or out of line whatsoever.

ya, I can't remember if that was her having half the witchblade or not, but still it was her being very new to the power and it was shown many times that she wasn't in full control. So I take that instance more of the Witchblade acting on impulse cause it is inherently violent.

I liked Coffin Hill. It's not amazing but when I heard she was going to write Witchblade I was interested, it's another comic with a woman cop as the protagonist so I thought she'd be a good fit for it. She cared a lot more about Coffin Hill though...
But yes, I thought Sara was a good character. She was a strong woman because of her inner strength, and the Witchblade, which gave her amazing physical strength, was something she had to work to understand and use properly, which was different from most other female comic characters.

Specifically, she was supposed to get two more issues but they were cancelled at the last minute, so it ends in a very rushed fashion

I remember loving the ~half a dozen issues I read back in the 90s. On one hand I want to give this a shot, but on the other hand, I remember loving Spawn just as much back then and rereading that didn't go well, since it's now ~25 years later, I'm old and bitter, and I can recognize that Todd is/was a shitty writer.

that's a shame, cause I think you could go through the original arc fine and enjoy it but your interest will wane for a while. it lags between 25-60 when Ron Marz picks it up and does huge world building. Honestly though, those issues don't matter, there is nothing in those issues that impact anything in the later stories, that is why they are so bad, they are just monster of the week with no impact.

Actually. Why not use The Darkness to reboot the universe and introduce Sara there. Spin her back out but use both them to tell about the struggles between The Darkness and The Witchblade through history. Use the issues to parallel old fights through history
