If you want it to be more interesting than a jetpack, just make it more interesting than a jetpack. Cushions and cup-holders don't make sense for a robot, but if you want it to be interesting to look at, those affections would be interesting to look at. You are free to let it not make sense. You could just make it huge. You could just move the mind into it. You could perform transformations so that only the robot women could contort to fit in the slot. You could move her tiny robot head to a giant body, and then re-purpose her tiny body as a hand held shield for the giant mech. The options are limitless.

Yes. There's no way to guarantee complete compatibility between one highly complex machine and another, but any human being can be educated to use two highly different machines.
If we have a machine with human-type size and articulation, intelligence, and capacity for learning, there is absolutely no reason that robot cannot be made to operate another robot which lacks those qualities and which requires a (usually) human operator.
Also, your no-can-do attitude is no good and sucks.
