I always wanted a story where the zombie plague wipes out well over half the human population, but then the zombies just rot on their own over the course of a couple of years, and the story takes place among the first generation of people who were born after the apocalypse, I would like to see what society would look like after that, how it's structured and stuff. There would be places where no one goes because they might step on some hidden goopy zombie like those minefields in Europe. Everyone would be super paranoid because the smallest fuck-up could lead to a new plague.

Technically the whole book happens after the worse of the zombies are over with. The narrator is just interviewing people that survived and they are talking about the past.

The biggest problem with the zombie genre is both humans are bad and survivors are suicidally retarded are overused and almost never fucking done well.

There are also ghosts, half dead people and necromancers. Its more of a comedy action game. Could be fun for a comic

Take out the dreading, hopelessness, etc feeling of the zombie apocalypse and make it actually really boring but comfy.

Think a combination of Generation Kill and GWTBW in the zombie 'apocalypse', except the apocalypse is dying down and the infection has been contained. Yeah a lot of people initially turned into a zombie and even had the occasional L4D-like mutation, but everyone has legitimately gotten over it. Probably throw in some flashbacks of the initial infection to have some tense action but it all slowly dies down because crew-serve weaponry beats zombie hordes.

Realistically speaking zombies wouldn't be fast for long when the muscles in their legs slide off from the bone. If they shamble around they can get more millage because it's less stress, but after a few days of necrosis, maggots and the beating hot sun exacerbated by concrete, the moment they started running that would be it.
The point of your post just shows how retarded the entire concept of a non magical/supernatural undead apocalypse is. If being just a tad bit smart, or thinking about it for 1 second completely breaks the tension or threat your story is trying to frame then it's a bad concept to begin with so they shouldn't even try to use science and realism at all because doing so shows how shitty the modern zombie actually is.
Might as well just scrap the idea of people coming back to life as zombies with live people with some kind Wendigo psychosis if they wanna go that route.

My number one pet peeve in zombie media is that nobody ever takes how easily it is to get infected seriously. You have character going around in short sleeved shirts, or with long grabable hair, hitting zombies with their bare fists or with blunt weapons without worry of their blood splashing in their eyes or mouth. Everyone should be wearing googles and motorcross jumpsuits at all times to survive.

Well they brought the protagonist and his group into their base (which was a large manor). They tried to screw them over and the protagonist got loose. He then proceeded to release the ONE infected guy they had which caused large amounts of havoc.

It was only because 1. Alot of the guys weren't even real soldiers but just given a gun and 2. Movie stupidity.

Make it a SOL/low-key thriller as he deals with surviving and protecting himself/the zombies who he has grown to care about, but make sure to show that the zombies are still mindless creatures and that it’s all just a coping mechanism for him.

I kind of want to do a story about years after the Zombie Apocalypse is sorted out, the survivors have to go through their day to day life with a severe case of PTSD. The zombies only appear as hallucinations, flashbacks, or night terrors.

You should probably read the first script draft of the WWZ movie. It kept the documentary style and followed the 'interview people on their stories' angle.

Then they dropped it because they thought it would've been too boring for a summer movie. It did feel like it would've been better adapted to an anthology show than full movie.

I’d like to see a Super Hero zombie story where the heroes win. Like everything goes to shit, but because the Heroes actually act like people who’ve dealt with world ending threats before. Marvel Zombies seemed pretty lame and DCeased’s only original idea it seems is Batman getting got at the end of the first issue.

Not assuming the keep to be surrounded by water, they would thank god that all they have to do is use their most basic siege defense tactics behind a wall against a mindless mob clawing at the stone waiting to be boiled alive, set on fire, turned into a pincushion and have their skulls caved in by rocks, and once the few hundred dirty undead peasantry's all dealt with, problem solved since there aren't any other traces of civilization around for miles and miles.
For this to not be resolved in a few days, writers would have to portray the people as the most inept and retarded mongrels, and considering the results of that godawful recent Game of Thrones episode, it's a bad idea for people that enjoy either historic fiction or zombies.

This is the stupider and less reasonable situation in all realities. There are plenty of historical examples during periods of extreme unrest or difficulty that demonstrate that the vast majority of people maintain social norms and moral behavior. The only people who start acting like animals are the ones who were already struggling to meet social standards to begin with, such as criminals, the mentally ill, the extreme poor, etc.
It's a completely believable, reasonable, and logical reaction for those people to be offended by the nudity. This is another perfect example of someone who thinks their shitty half-thought is comparable to legitimate critique or analysis of anything.

Would like to see zombies being a threat, but a manageable one. After the initial plague catches people off guard and brings down society. The surviving people actually cooperate instead of being sociopaths. So the story is gathering resources, survivors, keeping security, finding a vaccine, and eventual elimination of the zombie threat.

Not really, you can also do something interesting with the zombies themselves, e.g. as in brought up earlier in this thread Return of the Living Dead, In The Flesh, Biomega, etc.
If you're just using zombies as a plot device, the writing for the human conflict better be damn good.

Anti aging treatment goes wrong and makes a zombie plague that turns everyone that's 18 years old or older, leaving only teens and children to fend themselves from the zombies. The whole thing becomes hopeless after one of the maincast turns into a zombie without being biten when he turns 18 years old so everyone knows they have a ticking time bomb going on.

Could end with humanity dying, some of the children being naturally Inmune, the children finding a cure in the research lab that came up with the anti aging stuff or turns out it was a bio warfare bug by another country who comes in the last second to wipe out the zombies, claim the land and re educate the children

Since it's slightly related, did anyone read this thing? I like esoteric zombie apocalypses and the concept of "memetics" as espoused by Snow Crash, SCP, Pontypool, the BLIT stories by Langford etc. And this looked just about the level of weird and nonsensical I like in my horror. Ended up dissapointed by how it was written almost exactly like a generic zombie story and the bit at the end where all the infected fuse into flesh pillars reminded me of the cheesy ass panel in Supergods where the chinese collectively become Cthulhu

There was a book series, I can never remember the name of, that had zombies just eat everything. A few were able to still able think and ended up leading millions of hordes to fight one another over the final scraps of biomass before decaying away finally.

I always wanted a Walking Dead style “what happens after the end of the movie” comic but about a crazy RIFTS style apocalypse where shit just constantly escalates till you’ve got vampires riding mech suits fighting the fairy king of the forest.

Kinda reminds me of this one comic I read. I forgot the name of it but the plot was 'What if all the Gods and Goddesses were real then decided to come back one day'

It starts off simple with the Gods attempting to take back holy lands, try to rule over their people and such. Naturally they start warring amongst themselves, who saw that coming right? Then it just gets really weird as people suddenly are brought back to life healthy but can't actually die (they can get shot, stabbed, the wounds stay but won't heal) then people start looking for ways to kill the Gods. For some reason we suddenly have a rebel faction rise up that are riding giant green ants into battle.

Then Jesus Christ comes back in some big reveal literally saying 'What did you guys do to my dad's place?'

He's immediately shot in the head by another character who shouts 'I AM GETTING SICK OF ALL THIS!'

The zombies initially eat people as usual but regain consciousness after a while.

Setting it in the past has a couple of major benefits. The major one is a lack of fast or easy communication. You've got huge amounts of superstitions to deal with that would hamper a response. Hygiene issues would massively come into play. And what is majorly overlooked in historical zombie settings, the manual labor intensive nature of agriculture and society means that any disruption can potentially snowball into major issues. So yes, while medieval zombies mean that everyone can hole up in the castle for a couple of weeks until yon high king and his knights show up in full plate invincible to the zombies, they're now in the trouble because no one has been tending the fields and one can only assume that not all the zombies bothers to besiege the castle, if they even bothered to besiege the castle to begin with.
