Which parts of your comic do you enjoy working on the most? The least? (ie writing dialogue or scenes, drawing backgrounds, etc) Alt Q: What have you done recently to help other webcomic artists? Have you made friends/networks?
*Please add your comic name/link to your first image post
the typical answer is that you need to "just do it."
this advice is correct and true, but for some people they're procrastinators, their lack of self-confidence gets in the way, or you tend to just give up because you get frustrated because you stress too much over how your ability isn't at the level you want it to be
three strategies to keep in mind are 1. find your system and 2. set goals 3. accept failure first, everyone practices their art differently. some people like to draw in the morning, some at night after a long day so they have something to reward themselves with. others draw like it's a job. some people prefer music, others prefer no music so they have 100% concentration. some people draw in their kitchen, some in their rooms. if you use DrawABox it advises you to do some basic practice lines and shapes for 15 minutes a day before drawing the point is you find what works for you. maybe you spend more time practicing, sometimes you spend more time drawing for fun you need to find the system you best perform under because that will allow you to get into a routine second, it helps to have some goals. first of all, don't be one of those poor, poor souls who spend all years drawing shapes thinking the grind's going to give hem a magical ability to draw like Picasso be sure to draw completed works that you want to draw. they're going to have a bunch of mistakes, but doing this allows you to spot those mistakes and then work on what you want to improve on trying to fix that palm? practice hands. shadowing sucks balls? do still-life studies to understand light. maybe you eant to focus a lot of time on one problem. maybe you want to improve drastically so you put in extra hours to improve on a lot of stuff. maybe you prefer to fix your lack of skill one little bit at a time. what's your pace? do you want to get good really fast or can you wait?
if it ends in a tie do we get a Friendship ending?
Eli Diaz
Is it possible to become a better writer than Bendis? How do you know if you reached a point where you write comics better?
Alexander Wilson
DECIDED.
John Hernandez
setting goals and then achieving them is very satisfying and very encouraging, but more than that, making progress incentizes you to come to practice
thirdly, accept you're going to fail. you're going to miss a day or two or three or for or six and then you're going to get mad at yourself and quit because you feel you're not good enough or you're just a poser. if you miss days then just accept it and come back. you might stagnate. if that's the case, take a break and go for a walk. hang out wih friends. if that's not working, ask others for input. get critiques from people qualified to give you feedback. /ic/ sometimes helps with this but again, it depends on the whims of chance who responds to you (be sure to go to one of the generals according to your skill level) also keep in mind that your skill will not progress linearly. it does so in jumps. you will get really good in skill level, then you'll drop a little bit and plateau for a long time. then suddenly you'll find out of the blue you're really good, and then you'll get worse and plateau for a while. this is natural and something you'll just need to get used to, but do not be illusioned. your time is well-invested, it's just difficult to track sometimes. what's important is that you stay with it.
that's all the advice on discipline i can really afford. keep in mind that everyone struggles and go through rough patches. you just need to stop yourself sometimes and realize that you need to just sit down and oractice and draw to see the improvement you want
Good job asshole, now we won't get the mutual newfound lesbian love ending.
Grayson Phillips
new page! two in one week, wow!
writing takes the least amount of effort. backgrounds are my biggest weakness and is the most difficult. I like drawing faces. i guess the most fun is when i get to draw the really wacky spacial morph / psychedelic stuff cause i get to experiment with lots of techniques and effects.
if you want to make it a little fun you could get in on the Last Artist Standing general on /ic/ they're a little better in quality than most of the board's threads, but to be sure you shouldn't fall into the trap of browsing the thread for hours instead of working on your art
anyway, the new site they have up is Do Art Daily, and how it works is you have to post an art piece every day. and that's basically it. you can browse other people's submissions and comment, i think, but i only participated back when Lava was alive so i'm not sure. dad.gallery i might actually return to LAS. though, again. limit your time in the threads to about ten minutes max. it's so easy to get distracted
i don't know what i did if you're offended by the second paragraph there, i meant to bridge it to the advice by saying that more specific strategies to practice discipline beyond "just do it" are XYZ... and so on
Mozilla fucked up their add-on certification/authentication. If anyone here is a Firefox user you might want to switch to nightly or Chrome till they unfuck themselves.
To anyone else- without being able to use adblock/ublock, you might see a temporary drop in views if your site or host uses ads until this is fixed. Just so you know.
Dominic Foster
Been getting some comments on line thickness, mainly that some of my pages are hard to read without color. Color is still going to happen, but I'm trying to use thicker lines on my characters and even thinner lines on my backgrounds to make things a bit clearer beforehand. Proper line variation is something that I still struggle with, but we do learn by trying, right?
similar to the smoke instructions earlier, curly cloud shapes for the outpuffing of smoke and fire, plus little zoomy lines for debris flying out of the explosion, cutting through the cloud and maybe trailing some 80% of it is color, making a brighter color in the middle fading out to dark smoke, depending on the type of explosion (not all give off light after all, but the COOL ones do)
Carter Thomas
or just not update firefox, which is what I did, and that's the exact reason why. I'm confused what you're suggesting this has to do with someone's comic site
Jaxon Hughes
Looking way better.
William Harris
Erin onahole plushie when?
Cooper Diaz
failure is not an option
Nolan Nguyen
Thanks. It was one of those things that I hadn't really noticed until it started getting pointed out. Once I started working to fix it, things began to fall a bit better into place. I'll probably have to give my older pages a bit of retouching, but it's for the best.
Robert Gray
Your advice is basically "go to /ic/ and do drawabox, also you're not going to make it."
Robert James
because if sharks stop swimming, they die the same is true for making a webcomic or art. you can't give up
not what i said. i gave some suggestions for other respurces a person could use and said to keep at it
where did i say that anyone wasn't going to make it?
Leo Jackson
>thirdly, accept you're going to fail. >you're not good enough or you're just a poser. > then you'll drop a little bit and plateau for a long time. > you'll get worse and plateau for a while >drawing shapes thinking the grind's going to give hem a magical ability to draw like Picasso
Jackson Stewart
>I'm confused what you're suggesting this has to do with someone's comic site I'm saying that if you have ads people might avoid using your site if their ad (or script) blocker isn't working. Or if you use a host that has an addon used for extra features or convenience, there might be people who avoid using FF to browse said website until it's fixed. Of course, there's also the slim chance that if the certificates expire (@midnight) while on your site they might blame you for the failure.
It's probably going to be negligible, but it's something I personally like knowing if it has any impact on traffic and though others would like to know as well. Hopefully it means nothing for weekend readers.
certificate expiration is a big annoying thing but if you think anyone's like "Fuck, my adblock is malfunctioning, guess I'll avoid [LITERALLY EVERY SITE]" you don't know people
It's also thematically appropriate. Rococo is a magical girl and Rau looks like something a magical girl would fight.
William Myers
>you don't know people Lol, I do know people like that, that's why I'm guessing at possibilities. They tend to be less computer literate (regardless of age), but they do exist. But you are right, suddenly having ads isn't going to stop everyone from using the internet. They'll just bitch incessantly about ads.
Having password managers go down would be something that's going to be more interesting. Anything that requires sign-in is going to be a hell of lot harder for those that rely on it.
If you want something else that's tangentially webcomic related but still amusing- After Verizon practically nuked Tumblr's user base with their no titty rules, they're looking to sell off Tumblr. Of all possible businesses and websites that might bite, Pornhub has shown interest. You can only speculate what that means, but it's possible NSFW webcomics might make a comeback on Tumblr if this goes through. If that interests anyone, I'd suggest keeping an eye out for updates on that front.
Chase Hernandez
>pornhub might buy tumblr my fucking sides. Might be the funniest thing I've heard this week, including the fact that Sony took a tax writeoff and palmed off the Sonic movie onto Paramount, but Paramount kept the entire staff so there was literally no change to production. Viacom is really the king of buying up shit they have no idea how to run, aren't they? Neopets comes to mind. The amount of things they own is staggering and kind of disturbing, like they think they're Disney but there's a lot of questionmarks before 'profit'
Wyatt Jones
footfags out
John Ortiz
Not a footfag, I just think its hot and humiliating.
Ayden Fisher
>start story boarding comic >Starts out fairly down to earth. >12 pages in, its suddenly zany and cartoony and im actually excited to work on it.
Guys, i'm having fun. No one told me this would be fun. I was told this would be torture. I started comics because i deserve to suffer.
Generally that sort of thing is about humiliation, footfags would ask for something like rubbing or licking them
Landon Cruz
If a rodent stops chewing its teeth will impale its brain

Ducks have corkscrew penises designed to to be the perfect rape machine to counter anti rape duck pussies. Animal facts are fun.
Josiah Hall

Justin Butler
Well this is a new shitpost Whatever, it's variety at least. I'll welcome it. Just like the usual depressy feelsposting, I can identify with this. It's so nice when it all just comes together and you're interested. a lot of sharks are barely sharks. and did you ever see a skate? holy shit. then you have sword sharks...
Adam Richardson
pigs. pigs have corkscrew wangs and corkscrew vagoo (which is weird because anyone will tell you forcing a screw into a threaded hole doesn't work). ducks have solve-the-maze noodledongs to match the labyrinthine duck vagina.
Levi Hughes

Samuel Jones
How important is art vs writing in a comic? 50/50 split?
Chase Martin
Art is more likely to attract an audience, while people need to give writing a chance. Overall writing is more important obviously, but this is a visual medium.
Adrian Collins
i think you might have misread what i meant in my posts. i think i might not have types it out in the best way
>thirdly, accept you're going to fail. this was a pooe choicw of words. stumble is a better word. when you're getting the hang of a routine and disciplining yourself, very often people will end up breaking it at some point. the important thing is to not beat yourself up over it, take a deep breath, and try again >you're not good enough or you're just a poser. this wasn't literally. i wasnt namecalling. i was giving examples of the thoughts of self-doubt people have or excuses that they're not good enough. you have to ingore these thpughts and keep going on. i can see that this was poorly worded > then you'll drop a little bit and plateau for a long time. you'll get worse and plateau for a while this happens a lot to artists, and often people get frustrated when they feel like they're not getting better improvement has a weird way of peogressingng, but the important thing is to keep working at it and not get down >drawing shapes thinking the grind's going to give hem a magical ability to draw like Picasso yeah. it's more a horror scenario, but people who do NOTHING but basic exercises go nowhere drawing shapes and lines don't make you a better artist, there are more important skills like proportion and framing you need to learn, and you get better at them by drawing actual stuff
i can see now that i had a nunintended tone in my comments. it was more supposed to be helpful and uplifting. i did not mean to put anyone down
Henry Johnson
Continuing from what you said from last thread for making figurines, you could always sculpt them yourself or use a 3d modeling software then slice it up and add supports so that it can 3d print.
I would suggest using blender since its free and a guy named Daniel kreuter or something like that makes tutorial vids on youtube for making figures which are pretty good
Or if you want to think about sculpting I would suggest to check out the channel azuman because he shows his step by step process of how he goes about making his figurines
Cooper Richardson
>Which parts of your comic do you enjoy working on the most? The least? (ie writing dialogue or scenes, drawing backgrounds, etc) I fucking love doing linework. it's the part I enjoy doing most out of anything when I draw. designing backgrounds and characters is also really fun. >The least? coloring. it's really tedious and a pain in the ass to make sure the colors don't look terrible.
>Have you made friends/networks? I can't even make friends irl. I'm fucked in that regard
Nolan Gutierrez
Decided to make my own comic now, just finished this page last night.
Any advice? I feel like it's taking me a long time to finish one panel.
>I can't even make friends irl. I'm fucked in that regard just join a club
Jayden Hall
Which parts of your comic do you enjoy working on the most? The least? (ie writing dialogue or scenes, drawing backgrounds, etc)
Sketching mostly and panel layouts. Dialogue I sometimes enjoy, if it sounds right. My least favorite part is mostly just backgrounds, especially cities. I don't wanna make them feel empty so I have choice but to add some detail to them...which takes way too long.
I come from a largely background free art background so there things are super new territory for me.
>dweeb online comic makers That might be too specific. DnD and other role playing groups might have similar interests. Film and screenwriting would have similar skill sets when it comes to framing and writing. There are quite a few sequential arts type groups online, too. Storyboarding and the like.
Parker Anderson
>Any advice? I feel like it's taking me a long time to finish one panel. Learning to sketch quickly and thumbnail before doing a page is a start to making everything go faster, otherwise it's all about forcing yourself to not spend too much time on each panel with some self discipline.
Asher Diaz
I'm sure there's at least one creative group somewhere near you.
Jordan Perez
You don’t need to be a footfag to find foot kissing hot. Highest part of the body meets the lowest. It’s the perfect symbol of domination and surrender.
Brody Scott
Ah, I've always just done one panel at a time.
That one page took a whole day to do because of that I assume.
Thomas Johnson
ive found it easier to storyboard several pages at a time, and then going back and doing the linework and coloring. it feels like you get more done because you can rough out a lot of content quickly, and you have a template for things to come. it doesn't feel like you are starting from scratch each time.
Evan Barnes
I wanted to make a story set in a futuristic setting but I dont want it to be a dystopia, i want it to be a chill utopia. So what sort of story can I actually have in a setting like this?
Blake Peterson
Brave New World utopia
Chase Carter
Ok the only thing I know about brave new world is an outsider comes in and gets famous. So a rags to ritches story but in a utopia setting?
Parker White
Define utopia. What genre do you want, because if there's to much of a good thing it eventually becomes a dystopia
Charles Moore
I actually just wanted to make a murder mystery but I realized I couldn't make it work.
Angel James
>a murder mystery Wait, no. Please do something with this. There are so little comics with mystery stories.
Jackson Thompson
a story about venturing outside of your ivory tower to uplift people from far away It's a burden, but it's your duty
Michael Nguyen
ITS FINALLY HERE!!! I finally posted the first part of the comic after a few months of prep work. It's a little messy in spots but it'll get better -- and i've given myself plenty of cushion room so I wont run out of page before I can make more.
Funny thing is, normally I'm not much of a mystery fan, and at the best of times the result is something you never want to watch again because now you know how it ends (except maybe ONE more time to seeall the hints) but a webcomic is something people rarely ever reread anyway so maybe it's good for comics
Anthony Miller
Tangled has that wrapped up nicely
Jackson Jones
so the demons had internet before we did? lucky
Logan Wood
who knows exactly how the fabric space-time works once you leave this dimension. also I'm a fucking dumbass and posted the wrong link:
>t the best of times the result is something you never want to watch again because now you know how it ends Not true at all, but I can see your point.
Ethan Kelly
Why would anyone host on tumblr in this day and age? and is there a reason it's all right-aligned on the site? The text would be easier to read if the display size was a bit bigger. Also just a bit of light grays on the black and white would help with ease of reading. anyway good comic. I love that even down there they don't like cigarettes, and the main guy being almost named freddy kruger is amusing
Juan Cox
Did you not read my post or was that a gag I'm not getting
Mason Jones
it depends. I can't sit through an episode of House anymore because it's boring when you know what the revelation would be whereas something like Monk is still fun to watch sometimes
Noah Rivera
hm, that's a good question. it's mainly because both webtoon and tapas (the two "bigger" webcomic sites i could find) have severely restrictive image size limits, and I'm not great at site design. Once I have more pages up I might move to a better platform, but for now I guess this works. I'm still working out the blog kinks here and there. as for adding greyscale or fixing the viewing size, thats definitely something I'm going to work on. This was originally completed as one of my finals at school so I was under a time crunch the get the pages finished, but now that the course is over with I can go back and fix up any errors and whatnot.
Kevin Thomas
Naw man. Unless you're one of those guys that's really into the "fair mystery" aspect of mystery stories a good mystery should be good even if you know the ending. You know who did it in the Thin Man but you're still watching because Nic and Nora Charles are an incredible couple.
Leo Cox
I could have sworn tumblr fucked with your image sizes too
Ryder Reed
>a story about venturing outside of your ivory tower >to uplift people from far away (Corona) >It's a burden, but it's your duty (Princess) How is this not Tangled?
Ryder Anderson
an ivory tower is a place where you're pampered in luxury, not a literal tower. Punz didn't help anyone or do anything a princess does

I'm a sounding board for a couple of people who draw comics far more exciting than mine.
The explosion's fine, but remove that shadow from their eyeballs. I don't think I've ever seen that before
Much, much lower. webtoons.com/en/challenge/glacias/ep-1/viewer?title_no=49075&episode_no=1 Glacias, my favorite 'favorite' webcomic. You know how when people say something is the worst thing they've ever read, normally it'll just be slightly boring and vaguely offensive? Glacias is almost literally a pile of disconnected anime tropes. You can't see it in this example page but trust me it unravels by about page 13. It's unintentionally surreal and genuinely painful to read through, like some sort of mirror universe Axe Cop. Do not fucking look at its statistics, you are not going to like what you see. Solid 10/10, I love the art. Vaguely Dwarf Fortress.
Main reason to have good writing in a webcomic is because that's what you want to see in something you've made... followed by not being able to draw, natch
Known? Uh, Spiderforest, that webcomic collective that is not Spiderforest, and ComicFury has a forum of unknown population-I got there by following clickable names in comment sections
why does clip studio's ellipse tool make such asymmetrical circles? Anyone know a setting that alters that?
Blake Clark
eyeball shadow is a thing I've only just recently noticed all good artists do, it's easy to ignore It's the shadow from the brow ridge basically.
Julian Lee
Shift-drag to make a circle. Is 'adjust angle after fixed' checked? That might affect the shape if you're not careful.
James King
Good thinking but that didn't change it. It's symmetrical enough at large sizes, but up close for doing pixelry, it'll make a circle that's like clearly asymmetrical top to bottom.
Hudson Morgan
>it's easy to ignore No, otherwise I wouldn't have said anything. The dark blurriness makes their eyes look less animate. Compare the black eyed aliens in pic related with the orange ones. Shadows also look sharper and darker the closer the casting object is to what it lands on- try it, hold a hand by a wall
I meant it's easy to ignore it when good artists do it. Hence your saying "I don't think I've ever seen that before" Not saying this guy did it exactly right
Levi Clark
Hurry up with the entry!
Caleb Martin
I think the user who drew the one comic isn't doing the eye shadow in the right way, theyre just putting a shadow straight on the eyes when it doesn't exactly fit their style as well as not knowing enough structural anatomy to actually give a decent eye shadow to their character without it looking sloppy and out of place
Camden Fisher
yep, he definitely did it wrong. But he also did it.
Jose Nelson
Hello, it is me again. Motivation is still gone. What's your little secret to make it come back ?
play vidya til youre sick of it, then comic will feel like a fun break
Xavier Garcia
That's an interesting advice. Too bad I don't even have the motivation to play. But thanks anyway.
Ryder Kelly

Anyone got ideas for surrender pics?
Camden Phillips
>writer's block Suck it up and power through, you fag. Don't share the art if you don't believe it's up to par >burnout Take a two page vacation from the thing. Either browse through whatever inspires you or remove it all from your life in the meantime >motivation, short term Turn off the computer, now, and do something physical. You're currently set mentally to spend the next while lazing. Close all Yea Forums tabs- you anticipate replies. Physical tasks off the top of my head- doing the dishes, going to a local park and bringing back a stone/branch, move a small pallet (if in America or Canada. Avoid ones marked MB/methyl bromide)
Writer's block and burnout assumed, motivation definitely works. It mainly seems to be state of mind, hence boring, uncomfortable or seeking-based tasks
Actually she a dullanhan (this is the second time folks mistook my characters for different mythical beast)
Adrian Price

This legit?
Alexander Kelly
what? is that not right?
Isaac Fisher
I guess I'm so used to associating dullahans with the whole armor thing

It's by far the most legit thing on the page. That's what you pick at?
Eli Diaz
What's a very oni-like submission hold?
Dominic Harris
I'm a big fan of "The iron claw" just flat-out grabbing the victim by the face but more realistically, and with someone more in your weight class, a good oldfashioned chokehold?
Samuel Perez
For cuteness factor, have Rau be typecast by the audience as the monster Rococo the magical girl is going to beat up and show her reaction to it.
Adrian Thompson
Hmmm...Rau struggling with all her might to hold onto Rococo with a two handed choke while straddling her could be cute and hot.
Colton Diaz
wait, those two didn't fight each other yet, right?
my rule for picking fighting games characters its to go for the girl with the best ass, or the one with the cheapest moveset.
Jeremiah Cox
Is this every comic character here? I don't see mine.
Zachary Lewis
Hey man I saw your comic on webtoons and i think it's great, just my aesthetic.
I just want to let you know I think you can get more traction on webtoons and tapas if you rearrange the panels as a long scroll instead of a traditional format.
I don't see any Nyamoverse reps. No Stardust or Milly.

The purpose of the event was for everybody to submit an character of their own, and have everybody draw that character in their own style. There's supposed to be a finished product at the end of the month comprising of 676 (26x26) characters.
Dominic Powell
post a list of supposed characters

Naw. He sucks, its just that everyone underestimates how short his HUH OHKO can charges and get punked by it. He's easy once you make him whiff.

Chase Young
>have severely restrictive image size limits why do artists assume readers want to wait 20 seconds for their 5mb image of 2 panels to load? let alone continue at this pace of 1 click at a time utterly ruining any story flow?
Ayden Cook
the responsibility should be on the artist, not the site.
Owen Gomez
5mb is fucking massive, where do you live? Silicon Valley?

Does this look any closer to smoke? Is it all in the shading, or just the shape of the smoke?

Kevin Young
excellent shape for the silhouette. Of course the interior lines are just as important.
Isaiah Peterson

Isaiah Rivera
I would but they aren't my dudes and I don't want to ask permission from 25 other people to post their original drawings.
Carson White
it makes sense for the site to do it if its main reading experience is a phone app.
Charles Perez
all the more reason not to use a site like that.
Aiden Richardson
You are almost certainly right, but my brain is, at present, incapable of making the shift just yet. It's busy slobbering over the idea of holding a print copy in my hands.
Elijah Torres
Shilling my stardust script to see if someone wants to draw it.
>some guy projects himself across the astral plane into hyperspace >creates a new universe >creates time by making an old timey camera project onto the new universe >a star collapses in the new universe >stardust the super wizard is literally dust from a star >he'll end up teaming up with captain future to fight the evil wizard Spectro when Spectro wants to destroy time and the cosmic camera that projects it
Neat! Were you the guy earlier talking about a Black Terror comic? I got a webcomic about Stardust and several other public domain characters. I even included Mary Marvel recently.
So in yours god is a monk that creates his own universe? Have you thought about using any of the "got powers from Tibet" characters like Wonder Man or the Green Lama?
How's the psychology of your Stardust? I have mine as a kind of "misplaced antibody" that tries to do good by the standards of his home universe but fails. Yours sounds like he's a natural part of the camera-universe.
Aiden Parker
Do you know the character Phantasmo? His deal was that he summoned a giant tulpa version of himself. If your Stardust is a creation meant to police the universe or whatever you could tie him into Phantasmo as a thoughtform.
How does the cosmic camera figure into the cosmology exactly?.
Liam Roberts
Otto sweetie, that’s a troll.
Tyler Nguyen
Why is everyone so enamored by Stardust?
Andrew Turner
The monk is from universe 1, he creates universe 2. >powers from Tibet I haven't thought about that specifically, but it would make sense. He'll probably be end up being kind of like a monitor or metron from DC. I dont like the whole >super space wizard puts gangsters in jail Thing. To me, hes like the new gods, and all the cosmic marvel characters rolled into one super powerful being who fights cosmic threats. Stardust is a fucking space god. and no I'm not that guy. The cosmic camera is a 5th dimensional object that projects time onto the universe. Theres some metaphysical idea that some peoplegrant Morrison subscribe to that says that all of time is happening at once and is projected onto the universe. Its 5th dimensional because the characters in universe 2 live in 3 dimensions, but stardust can leave U2, making him 4d, and the camera cant be entered...i.e stardust cant physically go inside it to fix it, so it exists in a higher dimension than him. I also figure that if the universe has a camera that projects time onto it, I can have some good ol zaney silver age adventures where its goofy but also kinda metaphysical. So like I might have a villain write down his evil plans on a piece of paper, and the plans will happen, but stardust would have to go to another dimension and thwart those plans and destroy the paper with the plans with weird giant magic cosmic scissors or something.
Ryan Turner
It's a reverse-reverse trap. A girl that looks like a girl but claiming to be a boy.
Jace Anderson
Public magic domain character. So, a blank slate.
Benjamin Sullivan
Hello folks.
I've been working on commission-related stuff in recent days, such as drawing a commission info ad. I'll spare shilling it here, and just post my social media in case anyone who's interested can find the info there:
Otherwise, here's the standalone art I drew for it: Luther, my protagonist from FaustFall, with his powers exhibiting more rot than fire. He's also wielding a spear he grew out of his arm, which was inspired by a dream.
As for web comic-related affairs, I'm taking my time with bringing back my Cardinal Junction series. I'll post the cover page tomorrow, but any actual comic pages will likely be next Sunday. I don't want to rush them while I'm focusing on other projects/obligations.
Basically, but with extra self-insert trannyism slathered on top.
Charles Smith
Outside Captain Marvel he’s probably the most interesting public domain superhero just because of how batshit insane his stories were.
Michael Carter
that I could do without so cool. I want to send you back in time where this style could adorn some of the best 'zines
Michael Sanders
And for the fun of it...
>Which parts of your comic do you enjoy working on the most? The least? (ie writing dialogue or scenes, drawing backgrounds, etc)
Tough question, lol. Tbh, I rather enjoy the entire process since my comics are more passion projects than just comic-making. Although, I suppose, I hate when I procrastinate to start the drawing/inking process. Those initial 20 minutes can be a mixed bag, but once I start going I get in a usual 3-4 hours.
>Alt Q: What have you done recently to help other webcomic artists? Have you made friends/networks?
Hm... I've been reading and commenting on some of my fellow /hyw/ comic-maker's comics, and even discussed concepts like the collective unconscious with others. As for recent friends, I've become good friends with one of the artists here, who's got a taste for wanderlust and has proven to be a very interesting individual. It's always a thrill whenever they send correspondence.
>so cool. I want to send you back in time where this style could adorn some of the best 'zines
Haha, yeah, I missed a few of the major underground comic movements, unfortunately. I suppose it helps make my stuff stick nowadays, among more simplistic art styles. Not to say overly complex = better art, but a lot of my influences do cater to shit-ton of lines, lol. Lotsa 19th century illustrators in other words.
Christopher Roberts
who are any of those?
Juan Torres
where have nyamo and mitch been? they hardly update witch way witch anymore and I never see them post in these threads
Cameron Edwards
They're all in the chart, do you come to HYW often? It's fine if you don't, they're the main characters of some of the creators in this thread.
Angel Perry
the audience is massive. if your art stands out youll pick up readers far faster than just prodding along on tumblr
Colton Williams
hi I am new i am working on Dell-kun anyone give me more ideas someone told me to draw a Mac chan
it has to be inspired, the last thing you want to is rush it i still dont even have a name for the side project im working on, it's just called project donuts none of the characters have names or actual designs, just ironing out the story first
Nolan Nelson
Trace from 3d models or photos. Thanks to how easy it is with digital art, photobashing/tracing is practically industry standard.
>saves time >things look correct >get to focus more on your writing Anyone that tells you otherwise is just a crab trying to bring you down.
t. salty boomer mad he didn't grow up with this technology. Don't end up like Coldfusion, work smart not hard
Luke Ramirez
forgot that i never did the splash page for the chapter, but I'm really glad i held off until now. title may still be subject to change but this one is ringing with me for the time being
“This technology” is something that has already existed for decades in the form of a light box. Guess why? People still didn’t rely on it as a crutch for all of their drawing. You still have too know how to actually draw, because once you get to something you can’t just trace, it is going to be obvious. And it usually is.
Using means to save time is fine, but advising someone to just cut all corners just shows you don’t really know shit.
Chase Brooks
Hello! Sorry for keeping waiting. I'm sorting out some stuff with my main work. We are going to come back soon and do new amazing Witchway stuff.

Casual reminder that you have two days to set up and launch a Patreon to avoid their new increased pricing/fees. If there's a chance you want to set up a patreon at any point in the future, now would be the time to get it up (even if you don't get any patreons at first)
Does that mean just making an account or something else more involved?
Caleb Gray
You make an account and launch a Patreon page. Doesn't need to have actual content or even payment tiers, all you need to do is just launch it and the new fees won't affect you. The rest comes whenever you're ready.
make millions of microadjustments at the sketch stage
Josiah Wright
I dunno, when I did it, it got "approved" instantly. I'm talking 1 single click-instantly. All I did was upload a profile picture, cover image, page name and a small piece of description text.
Benjamin Bennett
Sounds cute . I'm looking forward to it.
Landon Nelson
>all you need to do is just launch it and the new fees won't affect you is that even legal? how can they have a whole subset of users to which the fees won't apply? and why? fuck it i don't care, i'll make a petreon who gives a shit
Ethan Flores
remember this is a blue board
Colton Foster
this is the only way it's legal, they're grandfathering in the old price point. At a certain point, anyone who signs up has read a new contract that says you only get this much
Austin Reed
wasted my time overdesigning the backgrounds yet again and had to simplify them some more. I need to work on that habit
Wait. I'm so confused with that character. I first thought it was a girl, then found out he was a boy. So you're saying they really are a girl?! Just claiming to be a boy all along? I'm lost.
Robert Clark
that'll show her.
Eli Ward
I think we're just being fucked with. she's a robot.
So... A female to male transgender, that still dresses/looks like a girl? Honestly I had no idea what was going on there....
David Ward
clever girl
Charles Myers
No idea but it sounds pretty clever. My e-lawyer skills are not what they used to be but probably the worst thing that could happen is that Patreon just bans you or sends you a cease and desist letter. If you don't plan on selling them then there's probably not a lot of risk at all.
John Green
THE PLAN outline vers. 0.01a if anyone wants to brainstorm, steal, or snitch (thou weenie)
>need 1 email per account, multiple accounts can go to 1 bank 1 >assume patreon is hostile to the idea, because assuming apathy is a bad plan >how potentially could patreon find out? >same IP address (VPN, Tor maybe), email (it's set up such that you need 1 email per account, banking addresses can overlap), browser cookies, suspicious activity (websites can POTENTIALLY know what browser you're using and if its in incognito. You need to fill out a explanation summary to become a creator, word salad probably a bad idea. 40+ Protonmail secure accounts signing up in an hour is probably passé.), 'submit for review' stage looks automated but could be reviewed later, >should probably use multiple bank accounts (and have those logged in the registration phase, really) but those probably cost money to open, definitely to maintain.
2 >make an account to see if everything that needs to be changed can be changed
3 >make 40 emails and accounts with names good enough to stick with because any more and I couldn't bear the heartbreak if/when they all get smote
how do you make a webcomic that is fresh, original, cool, new, exciting, tantalizing, tasty, aromatic?
please give me advice

>giving them away later legal? That's a good question. I would say that you should ask Support that question directly, but they might wind up adding it to the TOS directly.
Their current TOS, as I read it, doesn't have anything that specifically mentions the ownership of any given account. I don't have a patreon so I had to look this up, but it seems that when you set up a page it's required to fill in info regarding billing/payments (payout?) prior to launch, and you need to have a page launched in order to get the grandfathered in rates. If you were to give away the accounts to someone, it wouldn't matter much if it was close friends or family, but you might be opening yourself up to potential bank issues in the process of switching banking and other personal info needed for identification purposes.
The other user might be right that you might just risk bans (both IP address and bank info) on the low end, high end there might be fraud issues and your bank account might be seized/frozen by an investigative agency. But I'm also not a lawyer, so I don't know.
Honestly I wouldn't chance it. There's already talk that this lower rate is only temporary and those grandfathered in rates are just there to maintain their hold on their current userbase and won't mean much after a 6months to a year.
Parker Wood
>giving them away I'd assume so, since a patreon could be a group effort, it's presumable one could pass on ownership should one decide to leave the project
Mason Bailey
>mix five ideas together >learn to draw >keep drawing every day
John Sanchez
Can't wait for Rococo's entry. I bet its going to be really hot.
Benjamin Lee
>giving Ideally, if they do get grandfathered in, I'd want to sell them. I just didn't open with that because I think that pissed off /g/. If they don't get the grandfather clause I'm just giving them away to anyone that can't think of a name or doesn't want to make their own account out of security concerns.
I woulda thought the same but I'm testing this out while I wait for responses and I seem to have gotten a page up without a payout destination.
> and your bank account might be seized/frozen by an investigative agency. I *think* you're legally allowed to provide a false name to a bank, but that's one hell of a 'maybe' and I'll definitely be looking that up before actually trying it. I'm definitely making a new fund if I this and honestly I suspect that's going to be the point of failure.
Intrigue and spy games. Nah, look up Delve and whatever's in its sidebar. Be prepared to do porn.
>I *think* you're legally allowed to provide a false name to a bank Absolutely illegal in the US. There's some leeway in creating a fake name if it's a fake business account (and maybe LLCs?), but the "owner" still needs to have proper identification associated with the account. The fake business rules varies from bank to bank, but any FDIC insured bank is going to require your real name at some point. Prepaid and rechargable debit cards might be the only way to circumvent that, along with offshore banks, but I don't know the policies regarding those to say for sure.
>I'd want to sell them. Yeeeaaaah about that... "Giving away" an account is one thing, it's just changing hands, but selling tends to fall towards the red flag territory. Speaking in general (not Patreon specific) selling accounts is not illegal (yet), but is very questionable. The issue is that regardless of who sets up an account, the account itself is still the property of the website owners as it exists only on their domain. By signing up for an account the website owners are granting you permission to use their services at their own discretion, and as the TOS stipulates they grant themselves the rights to deny those permissions at any point in time. In short you are only "borrowing" access from them and own nothing. In some states selling something that doesn't actually belong to you is a charge of theft (it's some weird subgroup of theft, anyways) and you can be sued for it by the original owners as well as those the buyers, but I don't know how that would pertain to digital goods and/or services in this case (digital laws are still behind). With a good lawyer I wouldn't be surprised if they could use that theft charge as a starting point for a lawsuit.
I suppose it comes down to the whole thing being not illegal, but not free from a legal case if caught. Again, still not a lawyer :p
Isaiah Wright
in fact hasn't this come up from time to time in cape comics? like the various financial troubles Pete has been through include being given a check made out to "Spider-Man" and he can't just walk into a bank and cash it in-costume
Ryan Walker
how do we do that? i definitely want to get in dat action
his art has always looked like this why are you surprised? at least he's been keeping up with his strips where's your progress?
Jordan Clark
the most important thing is consistency not in art or writing but in updating
Isaiah Morales
keeping up with producing pure shit is not impressive in any way
Aaron Collins
Alright, here's the front cover to my next issue for Cardinal Junction. I'll be uploading two new pages next Sunday, so in the meantime, feel free to catch up with the series until then!
I'm scared of writing Yea Forums. How am I supposed to write better? Do I just write for five minutes a day hoping I don't suck less?
Carson Gray
d'you guys ever come up with a waifu in a dream, wonder where the fuck she came from, and realize she's basically rule 63 Ted "Theodore" Logan with a dash of Suzie from Deltarune ? And she talks like Eric from Ariel Needs Legs? No? Just me? Maybe a little Ally Sheedy in Breakfast Club? Feel like I gotta put this person in a comic now. her 'voice' is just really clear, plus that mixture of cute shyness and 80s cool girl confidence. I think the guy she was talking to in the dream was basically Kumada Yuuichirou anyway. But, like, in highschool.
ever just scroll this general and just think "man i suck but at least i'm not that guy" cause thats what i'd imagine people think of me
Jace Perry
start really analyzing what makes good writing good. read some reviews (really, reviews of anything will put you in the right mindset) I vaguely remember your name, and I remember you being pretty good
Angel Long
don't forget zaz, everyone always forgets they need zaz
Nolan Sullivan
Also how the fuck do you draw hands in pockets
Henry Stewart
you start by trying to avoid drawing hands thanks, user, that means a lot
Liam Wilson
read more books. writing is thinking.
Chase Murphy
hands in pockets are easy. just draw a mitt conected to the pants. you know whats really hard? drawing hands.
Tyler Turner
post discord
Isaac Bell
Rest of you shitters need to get on this level. Nobody besides coldfusion wants to read some 5th grade arts and craft project
Elijah Kelly
Fuck, hands are the one thing I'm proportionately good at relative to my other skills. I think I meant more like, how the fuck do you draw pockets, and how do you arrange the arms. Obviously the hand in the pocket isn't so hard itself.
Camden Morales
its still easy. relax the shoulders, slightly bend the arm inward for casual outward for additude. i usually leave no space between torso and arm. it really is just drawing a neautral pose with arms to the side, with a bit of fabric covering the hand.
Jace James
Thank you, this is hella useful. I literally think I've never drawn shoulders relaxed before, but now that you say that, it's a huge part of the posture that makes that work. Usually the thing to do in these situations is try it yourself, but my shoulders are heavily fucked from sidesleeping and I haven't owned a coat in 16 years.
Brandon Campbell
oh hey my guest page for Mountain Time just went up. mountaincomics.com/ it's been a long climb plumbing! also the thread's on page 9, we can't have that.
Zachary Bennett
A thing that's been useful for helping myself improve at drawing postures/poses is to just get up out of my chair to do the pose and then carefully think about how it feels and where everything is placed.
The shoulder thing for instance may have become immediately obvious if you tried it out. Can't be sure if there's any prerequisite skills or techniques you need to develop first to be able to do it well but it was certainly a big help to myself when I first started doing it.
Extra smart. Like I said I usually try the pose in question, but I never thought to think about how it feels, just how it looks. This is going to very help with some of my stiff-ass posing if I can just manage to remember it.
Blake Reed
>Try to do webcomic with a friend >I'm a published writer but not full time professional, he's fresh out of art school. >Within a month he's telling people he wrote the story I had for this. >Hasn't drawn anything by three months in. >Huge fight ensues I REALLY loved the webcomic idea I had for this and he tainted it so hard after I kicked him off that nobody in our circle wanted to touch it.
Elijah Adams
Nobody who would let something like that forever taint the very idea was worth working with anyway. Like they've never experienced that kind of mentally ill sumbitch in the art world before. There's a million of em.
Christopher Jones
Yeah jeeze, I read every in this chain except for the one I replied to. Though like you said the valuable part is definitely the visualization. Using how you feel as a kind of rig like you're working in 3d, if only we were as accurate.
Owen Jenkins
Truth. To be fair, of the 6 artists in that circle of people, only one of them is able to still do art professionally now 2 years later.
Finding an artist with actual work ethic is so hard. So many of the ones I know are talented as hell but they spend 40+ hours a week doing nothing but playing rocket league or overwatch or something else.
Blake Moore
and then some of us have a good work ethic (sometimes BECAUSE we know how to take time out to play vidya) but our art aint so great. Sometimes being great really quickly or early doesn't foster a good work ethic, you never learned how to try hard. But that can also mean you suck later. And maybe you developed a good work ethic because you got everything done quickly and felt like procrastination wasn't necessary, but it was only quick because it was crummy. It's complicated, man
Robert Bennett
I'd take a mediocre artist with good self motivation over the best artist with no self motivation any day.
Cameron James
Holy fuck man that is incredible, thanks for sharing
Ryan Rivera
thanks man. made my night.
Easton Ward
if I ever get good it won't be for people like you.
Xavier Perry
How long have you been drawing/how old are you? You also drew this right? Very cool
Nathaniel Carter
Are we allowed to post a comic if it contains sex? Like not a porn comic but has sex every couple chapters relevant to the plot and is censored
Noah Butler
I believe you can post the pages if you censor out any nsfw bits and put it behind a spoiler, but I'm not sure. If you don't want to risk a three day ban you can always just post the link.
>enjoy working on most/least planning/thumbnailing is fun. coming up with ideas and organizing them. i like seeing the accomplishments i make from long periods of thinking. so mostly the writing stage. i get fidgety during sketching or inking.
No offense, but I understood nothing in your post. Would you please reword it and make it a bit clearer on what you want?
Jose Parker
There is absolutely nothing like a post-orgasm snooze.

How do you write dialogue that doesn't feel stilted and janky and unnatural.
Austin Gutierrez
you write that thing exactly how you want letting every character convey what you want them to say
take a few hours off from it come back
take an axe to the sentence length and remove filler conversation that doesnt progress the story (throw out those dramatic "ums, oh's &wells ect if you already have used them in the current issue!)
Hunter Robinson
pass it to a friend or two preferably someone who thinks entirely differently from you
Isaac Parker
Unironically, rewrite it about ten times.
Josiah Brooks
this, but ironically
Jackson Turner
I'll consider it. Everything I write feels unnatural and completely cringe, like two AI robots conversing with each other or something. I would, but I'm a shameful person.
But basically, I think it's just common writer's sentiment to think that the dialogue you're writing is stiff and unnatural. I should probably just get over it, Thanks.
Dominic Cook
I enjoy the writing process, I think it's funny to get into the midset of the comedic relief or just great to say villian lines as I feel they would be said. However, drawing backgrounds, and on the rare occasion I do color is what fucks me up. I am working on a new arc right now (basically Christopher Walken gets a bunch of people together (3 drow elves, an orc, 1 half elf, an undyne, 2 humans, a nymph and an as of yet unspecified perfect being) to fight for a large sum of money, and his amusement.) And i might either just get someone else to do the backgrounds, or just see if anyone has any tips on youtube.
Aaron Barnes
Thanks, user!
Gavin Perez
unironically watch Quinten Tarantino flix. Particularly Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Say what you will about the guy, he gets dialogue. Made dialogue one of my favorite things to write. Ive found that the best way to do it is simplified english with a few colloquialisms thrown in. People tend to be very terse when they talk, so keep conversation short and to the point. Use incorrect grammar, slang, even cursing (depending on audience). Uh, ahs, stutters help spice it up. Rehearse a conversation you have had in real life. Throw in irreverent tangents when it helps characterization. If you think a character would call something bullshit, put it in. If you think a character would point out a squirrel on a wire while the world is ending, throw it in. Conversation is a weird mix of report (getting plot relevant shit out there) and rapport (mindless drivel). Finding a mix of the two is difficult. It really helps to have fleshed out characters with grounded personalities and quirks to work with.
Connor Rivera
Holy shit this pic helped me tremendously. My comic is 90% urban with giant robots and shit, and drawing a million rectangles with a million little windows was driving me up a wall.
Nolan Johnson
The roughs for chapter 1 are just about half way there. Finally got draw some damn robots.
Line art done for the net page of The Concord Initiative. I've been trying to fit an ominous wall of masks in for a few pages now, but it never seems to fit quite right. I'm hoping I can work with this page, because it does have promise.
I have been rereading the first chapters of this, somehow I let it slip that Rork and co. were waiting behind curtains the whole time.
As an extra, during the first chapter, on which the king dreams it looks like the professor its in there along with the people. Was that on purpose or its just a random similar design?
Matthew Green
Art looks great but I am always fond of your style. Only complaint i have is the speech bubbles. I get what you are going for, since you want to show off the art, but it kinda feels like i'm reading it backwards. its hard to follow. Im almost inclined to say that you just mirror the bottom panel and rearrange the bubbles accordingly.
Lincoln Barnes
I think I managed to sneak quite a few characters into a lot of the early crowd shots. Astreides, Sormon, Rork, Gasparro and a few others are in the nightmare; Several major antagonists are hiding in the crowd shots at the start of chapter 1. I really suffered through those panels, so I needed to liven it up for myself...
Aw hell, you're right--now I can't unsee it. I'll see what I can do. It should be easy enough.
Aiden Murphy
I hate that I'm a joke and a laughing stock to everyone everywhere I go when going on other artist hangouts on the internet. Everyone just talks crap behind my back, no one ever takes me seriously, I just want some sort of respect or at least I dont wanna be the butt if all jokes anymore...
Cameron Roberts
Your conduct over the years has, allegedly, been less than ideal. These things don't come from nowhere. I would reflect and think about it. It's unfair to call it "behind your back" given how aggressive people are in letting you know their distaste.
That said.
I personally have never seen you do anything that could ever warrant the level of gleeful, frothing contempt that is thrown your way. I feel ashamed that I haven't said anything until now. Honestly, I feel pretty sick about it, and I apologize. Not Christlike. I'm not a fan of your work, but obviously that does not excuse the astonishing poison you attract, here. I don't know your story, and I don't claim to know to what degree you invite this kind of attention, but I cannot believe it deserves the kind of treatment you get every time you post. It's sickening.
Whatever the problem is, I pray you are able to navigate it. That may involve leaving, unfair as that may be. I just don't know.
Brody Thompson
If it makes you feel any better I have nothing against you. I havent tried your comic tho.
Chase Brooks
oh hey, that looks really fucking good. Honestly, bravo, dude.
Christian Allen
no one takes you seriously because of your work so make something good? wow
Carter Cox
Kinda have to agree. I always had these thoughts: "Why are they shitting on him so much, its sickening" but then "I guess something happened before", since im new and I cant know. Like, you would think this level of hate has some reasoning behind it and doesnt come at random.
Jack Evans
I was bad at taking in hate a few years ago, and i hate how i reacted towards a lot of critisism towards me, i usually just try to ignore mean comments these days, but sometimes i still just kinda snap.
but now nobody really talks to me anymore and just keep on reflecting about how i reacted towards people years ago instead of how i am now.
Oliver Sanchez
just chilllll
Brandon Rogers
Thank you. I'm working on sucking less lately.

If you are genuinely sorry, and you are genuinely trying to repair your reputation, then anyone who continues to treat you like they have should be ashamed of themselves. I have been antisocial in these threads, and this is an excuse for me to get more involved. Nobody should have to endure what you endured. I choose to believe that you're trying your best. Ultimately, you only have control over your own behavior and attitude.
Michael Perry
And how do I analyze writing?
Mason Wright
I'm on my phone, this is 100% serious.
Jace Ramirez
People sho shit on others are generally anonymous for that exact reason You're a good guy Gus. Glad to see I'm not totally alone well I think you're cool, and you can always talk on discord or something if there's heavy shit going on. Sometimes being excluded and ostracized is just the price you pay for not conforming.
Aiden Cruz
>avoid sounding like poetry/ unintentional rhymes >avoid using the same/similar non-background words in two concurrent sentences In slightly different contexts, I think. There's a porn author who I'm not going to link that's mechanically great but he consistently runs into this and its the clunkiest thing ever. ... Probably not relevant in this context but it could be helpful to somebody, never know >say dialogue out loud >some words are better to end on than others And I have no fucking idea how to google this. Consonants? There was a post explaining this somewhere and I've felt it going over my posts but I have no idea which is which.
It's sort of like, saying something good and final for the last word of the sentence, or doesn't suddenly make you think the meaning has changed. Or not, if that's the opposite of what you want. Think about the difference between beginning a sentence with 'actually' and ending it with that.
Caleb Powell
Improve, man. People wouldn't be on your case if you didn't try to improve West Tree conventionally, but badly. Best explanation I heard for the ill-will was that you pretend to be someone barely willing to improve when you aren't
treating someone with basic decency shouldn't rely on things like that. Besides, he's improved before, and that didn't help. I've seen this happen with tons of people, as long as certain people are allowed to decide what improvement is, who have made it clear they take glee in attacking folk, you can't escape that said, to my eye, his improvement has slowed lately.
Andrew Perry
No it was definitely about how the word itself sounded, that was how they phrased it.
i'd hate to be bullied online when i put my heart into something but actually having some sort of reputation can easily be made into your advantage
you could either double down and become a low cow who profits off their infamy like Chris-Chan and Ben Garrison or improve and people will appreciate your effort
Mason Nguyen
imagine a person doing it with a straight face, can you? The tone of your comic will alter this
Lincoln Parker

here's a tip for everyone trying to make a webcomic, book, video game or whatever
BE INFLUENCED BY CREATIONS IN YOUR MEDIUM
Charles Reyes
Doing what?
Kayden Kelly
that is all about characterization. of you have a personality defined for a character, you should have little tertiary things that are not important but fit said personality i find it better to show not tell. if a character is vapid or self absorbed, then show them playing on their phone or something. as for vocal tics, do whatever you want really. vocal tics imo come off as more believable than not having them no matter how weird. have characters that are fond of certain words.(Inconceivable!) have stutters, repeat words, finish sentences with sounds like those cat girls who end things in nya, or even use different fonts to give off a different vibe.
Christian Thompson
I've long since given up trying to support my arguments with clear, even practically objective evidence. It takes zero effort to completely shut it down with "nuh uh" and get over 9000 people behind you, because agreeing takes no effort either. So let's hear how this isn't an improvement at all
always did like legend of the hare. It'll be interesting to see how the art changes the tone, given how very different the comics are
Hudson Allen
Vocal Tics sounds a bit harder, but also sounds fun
Bentley Allen
I feel like Saffron will be changing to be a little more LotH-like as I get back in the groove of working with Carlos and working towards his strengths. This chapter is short and quick and cartoony to get everyone used to the new art style, and I'm taking advantage of it to change the direction of the comic a little.
And more establishing shots. Carlos is amazing at establishing shots.
I'm very excited about this mild reboot/refresh of Saffron, more excited than I've been for the comic in a long while.
Also, if you liked Legend of the Hare, I'm going to be reuploading it with author commentary at lothcomic.com, though that site is still a WIP and won't officially launch for a few more days.
Hudson Stewart
Yeah no, I think I'm gonna go with improving. My comic and even more so my attitude.
Austin Miller
Good man. That's the harder option of the two
Parker Morris
Man, my paneling for the last 2 posteds kinda stank. I'll get better as I go. Also, I haven't done much of my work on the next page when it's supposed to be posted tomorrow. Aah!
I just enjoy continuing the story I suppose, just the feeling of making the page makes my day or night. The least I enjoy would have to be paneling and backgrounds. It's always hard to figure out what kind of frame goes with the scene or feeling you want to bring to the reader.
As for backgrounds I've been doing my best to draw more through life sketches and SVS classes.
remember practicing is only part of improving, there's also learning
Evan Hall
surprised you have this level of construction given your results, not knocking ya. Glad you're putting this step in. What are you using for your digital inking?
Kayden Parker
Thanks, I'm honestly trying to improve as I create the comic. At first I was using the hard round brush in photoshop for inking, but the contour lines were so fucked that everything looked the same. I spent probably the next few days downloading brushes to see what stuck.
In all honesty I'm kinda ashamed of my inking skills, but you get success through failure. Any advice?
It's not the brush, it's just the shapes. You seem to be doing the lines both too quickly and not quickly enough at once. You might try using the lazynezumi stabilizer plugin. Also, pressure sensitivity for line thickness varying. Don't be afraid, by the way, to draw a nice circle outline for Kit, then draw the ears and hair in and erase the lines where they overlap. That way you won't have such an uneven, interrupted shape for the body. Being able to easily and cleanly erase is one of the best things about digital art.
Jaxon Miller
I do realize that, I had lazynezumi before when I was still in college, but after the photoshop update added smoothing I decided not to use it anymore. I do realize Kit's body shape is weird too, I draw her as a scoop of ice cream with cat ears on it. I do draw a circle outline for her but I erase the bottom half for her little nubblets. I realize now, that I've kinda been going at it wrong and I'll strive to be better, thanks for the critique user.
Yeah she's kind of a scrubbing bubble. Scoops of ice cream usually bulge out a little at the bottom anyway, I could see that happening and she thinks she's getting fat, but really she's just melting slightly and has to go chill out. I don't know what the rules are for cat ice cream hybrids, it's just weird there's more than one of those.
