Seriously this. The shipping drama took too much away from the main characters' interactions with each other, which had always been the main appeal of this show.

Battle for Mewni was underwhelming, but at least it flowed logically from S2b. Nearly everything about S3a was nonsense that derailed all of the characters in order to establish the new status quo.

Beach Day is a perfect example of how much better seasons 3&4 could've been if there had been more focus on Star and Marco having fun together, instead of driving wedges between them.

Don't have a straight answer, but what drives me from watching this was 1: The main plot, 2: Starco, knowing that they'll be endgame, and 3: How unexpected this shit can be.

A bonus is just Star. I mean, you have to understand a deconstruction of certain archetypes like Magical Girls or princesses. If you keep it straight, then that character will be a dime-a-dozen if you tend to watch more. Deconstruction goes far deeper, giving better character development, making them feel more unique, apart from the very outside which you people consider otherwise.

So in this case, Star went from a care-free interdimensional bug princess to a jealous insect, then soldiered on as she "died," cheated death, cheated her demon boyfriend, went through an identity crisis, gave up the crown, and now the end is uncertain, but she has matured throughout the entire run.

Such a waste. And her songs are fucking terrible when compared to the others thus far.

It was really tiring specially in season 3 AND 4.
They kept miserable Marco for too long and made a song about it, yet made Tom complain that Star wasn't spending enough time with him and had him look bad by wanting to be better than Marco. And then they forgot about that.
Then made Marco get in relationship with the woolet girl, than break up up with her before we get anything from that, and swept away the photobooth kiss and the Blood Moon thing just to drag Tom and Star dying relationship even more. And now we MIGHT get a break or not from them.

Tomstar was a mistake. Having them date had the dual effect of keeping Star and Marco from interacting as much as they should have, and removing anything remotely interesting from Tom's character. It would've been much better if Star and Tom just decided to be friends, and once Star and Marco got together (around the middle of season 3, to make it almost the exact halfway point of the series) have Tom just telling Marco "don't fuck things up like I did."

I don't know if it's just me, but I just can't find a character who was once an old bitch called "Miss Heinous" to be hot.

The show is actually a good show, as someone who was burned out by what happened to Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and Gravity Falls, this show, doesn't feel tiresome to me, it balances stuff rather well, of the bunch its easily the best of them.
That said, any romance drama is annoying to me, also Meteora's arc felt dumb at the time, but now that she's just a dumb baby I don't care.

It felt important because there were STAKES. This is something the current season desperately needs. Star had something huge to overcome in the loss of the book and had a reason to defeat Ludo.

Which is an example of extremely bad writing because Eclipsa saved all their jobber asses in Season 3, Globgor is a war machine who soloed Star Butterfly and the MHC, and Meteora already humilliated Mina in one-shot.

It's kinda bonkers, isn't it? If strength is a game of rock-paper-scissors, everything is upside-down and backwards. Toffee / Ludo beat Moon, but Moon beat past-Toffee (technically) and Super Meteora (technically), and Super Meteora beat Butterfly Star, who one-shot Neo Toffee. It means that all four of them are relatively on the same level of power.

HOWEVER Super Meteora one-shot Solar Mina, who tanked Star, Marco, and Tom together. Not only that Eclipsa beat a weakened Super Meteora, and while Globgor has shown he can handle the MHC, so did Toffee / Ludo, so it's not necessarily that great of feats for either of them.

But since Meteora's already beaten Mina, and even Baby Meteora can solo Toffee, what is there to see?

In better hands I could give the show the benefit of the doubt and expect Mina to present some kind of reasonable threat. But not with this show. Reminds me of when I spoke to an Adventure Time writer on Twitter before season 6 and asked him about an upcoming war between the kingdoms because it seemed like everyone was spoiling for destruction with all the threats they'd brought up and that Finn would exit Ooo just before things kicked off to look for his dad. The writer's response was that my expectations were way too high.

To sum up, the character with the most consistent high power level is Baby Meteora but the plot will have her being placed far from battle so Star can shine.

You know what might be an intriguing thing? Father time telling Star that harder times are yet to come but that she's persevered before and has to show that same mettle again.

Or how about Hekapoo still being opposed to Eclipsa's rule to the extent that gives Mina carte blanc to use inter-dimensional portals and she'll look the other way, but has enough regard for Marco to tell him not to come back to Mewni.

Maybe Moon could have explained how she un-petrified Geoffrey to show that she still has some powerful magic that could counter Mina's.

But nothing matters because writing and animation is too hard and the writers only care about a political message with the subtlety of a brick to the face. Honestly if you told me 10 years ago that a new My Little Pony series would be the most consistently written show in a competition between Cartoon Network, Disney and Nick I'd have tried to sell you a bridge in Manhattan.

Judging a love triangle on its outcome is probably one of the most blatantly boring and bias ways a person can a drama.

Season 2's jarco was a wonderful example of why this is the case. Everyone and their mom could tell you that ultimately, Starco was going to come out on top. Solidified in the moment episode one had it's wonderful "My thoughts on Marco" scene in Star's closest. Even so, people were enthralled with the season, with one of the shows biggest highlight moments being when Star and Marco reunited with a hug during the s2 finale.

And this all because the writers managed to sell how the characters felt through character action and proper build up. Season 3 and 4 have been severely lacking these qualities, bar a few episodes. The proof in this lies in just how everyone has been reacting to the shipping drama now compared to then.

Let's remember that the majority of the people who showed up in these threads were specifically here for either wholesome Starco of shipping drama.

tldr: The problem isn't that there's too much shipping drama or that it's generic, the problem is that it's shit tier.

When Star started putting her friends in danger over her jealousy of Jackie and Marco I realized Star didn't deserve to win, they were better as best friends who just did cool shit.

“Gone Baby Gone”, the last of the four half-episodes that aired last Sunday.

This. TomStar was a mistake because the big "lesson" in his development got punted from 'Club Snubbed' all the way to 'DoopDoop'. You could have just as easily had his walk away from Star into a pillar of fire fit on the balcony of Mewni castle following their dance of obligation without having to waste a season and a half on half-hearted drama.
Had they even attempted to try and match what was shown in the conflict with Star-Jackie-Marco like mentions, it might've been worth it. But nah, it was a faulty bag of goods from the start.

This show from the very fucking beginning was an unbalanced mess. The first season is nigh near unwatchable until Tofee appears and even then the show is still not funny. The rewrites in the second pratically saved it but it was also where the shipping became unbearable and then came S3 and S4 which revealed that there was never a plan or what was set up in the beginning didn't actually matter since they weren't approve for a fifth season. The show at best was mediocre and godawful at worst.

Rhombulus has been shown to be basically a very dumb jock with a heart. He knows he's just the brute force element and he also knows he isn't that smart so the only thing he knows to do is to try to adhere to a certain set of rules to be a good guy. He desperately wants to feel accepted as an equal and as a guy who always tries to do his best yet he feels like he's being treated as a child or as an undesirable weight no matter how hard he tries, so he gets desperate for approval and tries to do what he thinks everyone considers right and of course it blows up on his face because he thinks he knows what others consider right but takes it to extremes just to get love.
