Again, I don’t think Jay has any hangups on letting kids join his group. Jakeem and Courtney were younger or the same age as Billy and they still get to run around beating bad guys (Jakeem got his throat slashed by Mordu, Mind-Controlled by Qwisp and nearly killed by the Ultrahumanite, yet he’s still there).

He simply thought that somehow the circumstances around that pillar were bad, he thought "this pillar needs a little of help because I think that it can't see the future consequences of its actions, I'm going to warn her carefully, because I care about pillars not buildings, the pillars are more important than buildings. She might be confused, a little of this information might help her." He never really meant to destroy the building, he just wanted to help the pillars so they wouldn't experiment the consequences, he thought "Maybe the ancient book can help them." He really never understood why was it so hard to see or so easily misinterpreted.
