yeah, the comic is kind of inconsistent in that way.

like it wants to goof off with the inherent sillyness of d&d encounters and the weirder implications of it but then it's like it doesnt want to fully commit to the world so there is this strange kind of dissonance

There's also the fact that they do battle with adventuring wizards, archers and swordsmen while Dracula is dating a high schooler who pops MDMA and listens to EDM. I think the inconsistency is intentional.

I had these ordered for me for my birthday and they took forever to arrive because, as I understand it, Chinese people making the physical copy were really shitty, and I dared to wonder if maybe he was a scam.

100% in the wrong, the physical copies are absolutely stunning: printing is beautiful, the binding and cover material are some of the best I've seen, what you're seeing is 100% what you're getting.

Also, V2 is great, different from V1 but definitely in tone with how V1 ends.

Just guessing by what we've seen from the free stuff, I assume volume 2 has more of the super weird stuff in it.

Throughout V1, you know how it became less real world people in a dungeon and more "these monsters live in a real world like ours, dungeon is just a job"?
It goes further into that, lots of world building, not really where I was expecting things to go but that's really been the story of this book.

Book 3 is planned, it's titled Steve Lichman, Volume 3 - Lichman Densetsu: Wakare, Kuruna Kyuketsuki. To give you an idea of how unpredictably awesome shit's gonna become.
