Wew, this Zelda cartoon reboot looks great. But seriously, do you think we'll ever get a good LoZ cartoon?

That Zelda drawing is so bad what the fuck
I think a good Zelda cartoon should use the "Oracle of" artstyle and balance exciting combat scenes, with magical whimsical moments and just a few little scenes of comedy sprinkled in (like the goron hugs on oot)
how so?
Not him but her face seems just a teensy bit too long.
Same. I'm of the rare opinion that a Zelda cartoon doesn't need to be edgy grimdark. Occasionally dark absolutely. A hovering sense of doom, sure! But Zelda is a very optimistic series. The Demon King reincarnates and can never be truly defeated? Great so do the heroes. It should be kinda a road trip show like Avatar with an overarching goal of BEAT THE MEAN GUY
We already had one
she's missing an eye and her face is shaped like a cheese wedge
To be quite honest, only Americans seem to have this idea that Zelda HAS to be realistic and grimdark, which led to Twilight Princess. While Majora's Mask was indeed quite dark with the literal face of looming apocalypse above you at all times, it wasn't quite DARK. I'd say it was more... melancholic.
I'd instead liken Zelda a bit more with The Slayers, the anime.
>it wasn't quite DARK
I meant to say, it wasn't quite EDGY
Depends of who animates it.
This is really not Yea Forums material tho. I expect more a Japanese studio to take care of it (or the very least an "anime aesthetic" one like Adi Shankar or Studio Mir).
It's so retarded that us burgers think that everything needs to be grimdark, let alone Zelda, when most games have a sort of timeless Tolkien meets Miyazaki, with the odd influence from other sources depending on the game, like Alice in Wonderland for the aforementioned MM.
Yeah, when I think of a dark Zelda cartoon I think of Over the Garden Wall meets Princess Mononoke. Heavy themes and scary monsters without gratuitous sex and violence.
Well, Mononoke's pretty fucking violent, but.you know what I mean.
I remember back when I was a kid online, when Wind Waker got announced I checked reactions on your burger forums and it always stick to me some guy said that the then-untitled Wind Waker was a mistake because "Zelda should be even more realistic with next-gen graphics and blood that sticks on the sword thorough the entire playthrough".
Castlevania got an edgy cartoon because it was an edgy game. You're fighting demons in Dracula's castle.
Metroid would get a edgy cartoon full of scarred characters fighting through the pain and killing aliens. Hopefully with Sigourney Weaver.
Those are the only grimdark Nintendo properties I could justify.
Castlevania is a Konami property but I get your point.
Sigmone Weaver is too old to play Samus, though, Samus is canonically 17 in Zero Mission and 18 in Metroid Prime.
>Sigmone
I meant Sigourney, what a waste of trips.
Only if link remains a cute boy
Her voice hasn't gotten gone soft. She always had the old lady voice.
I think people exaggerate TP's grimdark-ness desu, whether they mean it positively or negatively
Burgers have a weird obsession with GRIMDARK EDGE. It's so weird seeing everyone want every kids' franchise to be dark and edgy. Just look at the Power Rangers movie from a couple years back. People were seriously clamoring for dark and "mature" PR. It's like people completely forget the whole appeal of these things just so to appeal to their own immature sense of "maturity".
It’s a natural backlash against puritism this country has to constantly deal with.
You know, for some dumb reason I was thinking of Weaver in a live action metroid despite this being fucking Yea Forums.
Maybe if the Mario movie does well, although a Zelda movie would probably be the first thing that comes to their minds.
They should just get Jennifer Hale anyway.
>Just look at the Power Rangers movie from a couple years back.
I fucking hate that. They're just proving the evil Captain Blue right, that people want cynicism and despair, while old-fashioned justice is corny.
>"There won't be any heroic action movies after this. There won't be any heroes anymore. People will become cynical. And the cynics are the easiest to control."
Or whoever played Amanda Ripley in Alien Isolation. The show could follow the games formula, where she loses her gear and has to improvise before the climax episode has her in full armor tearing shit up
Did you just quote the fucking Viewtiful Joe anime? Who does that?
I remember Shankar talking about the Power Rangers thing and basically saying he wasn't trying to do Dark Knight Returns, where you take a silly property and make it serious. He was pulling a Original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, where you take something inherently silly and fill it with as much gratuitous grittiness as you can. Still can't get behind an inherently MEAN-SPIRITED project, but we got Castlevania out of it
>"The old happy endings won't do. People think upbeats movie are corny. Sad but true. What's 'cool' now is to pretend that you're too smart for hope. That hope is for those too frightened to face life as it really is."
Prove Captain Blue wrong on the bigger scope of things. The stupid Power Rangers fan movie from a few years back with Jason David Frank is proof of it.
>Slayers style Zelda show
I could dig it.
It wasn't supposed to be "badass" though, it was a parody of that kind of shit. That's why all the Power Rangers are dead by the end.
I really loved crypt of the necrodancer, but god damn the voice work was so awful. Really everything about the game's presentation not having to do with the music or enemy designs was terrible. I see that still hasn't changed, what a shame.
>it was a parody of that kind of shit.
Audiences sure as fuck didn't see it that way. Go look at the comments. "This is how Power Rangers SHOULD be like!"
>people are retards
That's not the filmmaker's fault.
A film maker should know how audiences will react. It is the golden rule of entertainment, "assume the audience is stupid", most of the time it is and it's infurating.
Edgy Power Rangers are dead in the dust and the current vogue is bright colorful superhero movies that emphasize fantasy and emotional spectacle rather than gritty realness
"What were you trying to prove? That deep down, everyone's as ugly as you are? You're ALONE!"
>things shouldn't be made because some retard in Youtube could say something that will trigger me
Alright. Let's stop infringing user's safe space then.
My nigga.
>youtube.com
I know SoaD didn't do this, the video is an ancient upload
>the current vogue is bright colorful superhero movies that emphasize fantasy and emotional spectacle rather than gritty realness
Is this why DC movies are failing miserably?
It's not a safespace, it's the same what happened to Zelda. Twilight Princess got made because Wind Waker initially underperformed compared to it's predecesors because of the artstyle. It just makes me a bit bummed, man.
based
yes. And why when Aquaman aimed for a brighter color palette with a lighter story, it was the most successful DC movie since TDKR
Even though it was made in Japan, I feel Viewtiful Joe, both the anime and the game, are Yea Forums enough.
I won't dispute this. Aquaman was such a fun movie.
Don't forget WW to a lesser extent. Shazam will probably do well too
Yeah, it looks worse than pixelhat's art
Hell no. Make a Zelda anime if necessary, but fuck western cartoons and fuck the west.
To be fair, The first two Zelda Games are actually more fit for a grim atmosphere from the world itself, if not the character, considering they take place in the Era of Decline, where everything sucks, The kingdom of Hyrule is crumbling into irrelevance, and everyone lives in caves or isolated hamlets.
But Link is also a beacon of home. It can be grim, but not defeatist.
Link does still manage to stop Ganon, though. And things actually start getting better in that timeline.
>Home
Hope. God damn it.
Until Ganon destroys Hyrule once again in the future, 100 years before the start of BotW.
>Implying that Power Rangers movie was edgy or even dark
It was a story about a bunch of outcasts, delinquents, and problem children (i.e. teenagers with attitude) coming together to fight off a greater threat and learn the virtues of friendship, trust, valor, and selflessness along the way, triumping over evil in the end. That’s not even remotely grim or dark. The only moment that even came close to being either of those was when the black kid died, and even that’s a stretch because A. They treated like it was a big deal rather than just an eventuality of war, and even spend a (too) long funeral procession over it, and B. He comes back to life right after.
If that’s too edgy then what isn’t short of Care Bears?
BotW is essentially where all timelines link together once more. It's the furthest future seen in Zelda yet, and doesn't really invalidate the efforts of previous heroes.
True, but the world itself should have a more grim tone to contrast. The best motif of the Downfall timeline Links is that they’re like candles in the Darkness, alone but unwavering.
Actually Nintendo pulled a Blizzard and decided not release information on what Timeline BotW is in because they didn’t want to get lynched for destroying people’s headcanons. It’s basically Schroedinger’s Zelda game now.
those people either didn't pay attention or just saw the trailers and saw the Bayformers like designs and thought it was grim dark. The darkest thing in the movie was the death you mentioned and the fact that the Black Rangers mom was sick with some illness but even that is a stretch. The fucking Megazord did a little dance when they won and they still think the movie is "grim dark and mature" just because the designs aren't spandex and plastic with green screen backdrops
We're not talking about the official theater-length movie.
We're talking about the short on YouTube.
No we're talking about the Edgy Power Rangers high budget FAN FILM Adi Shankar made. It has meth, ptsd, and characters being killed off.
>BotW is essentially where all timelines link together once more.
That is not only physically impossible simply due to the differences in how borders and geography are affected in each timeline, but so nonsensical and illogical that they might as well not even bother trying to have timelines in the first place.
That's only a theory. Aonuma said "it's the timeline Ganon returns the most times", that'd be the Decline one.
Also you can't merge 3 conflicting events of history. "Hyrule sunk but it did not".
why is this allowed but a fox in space not
Who said a fox in space wasn’t allowed?
How do you fiix Link being a mute character?
I think as you get older your idea of "dark" changes. It's easy to say cheap grimdark stuff like TP (which I actually did enjoy quite a bit) is "dark" just because the bad guy got a bit of power and everyone has to pitch in to stop him instead of letting the one hero do all the work.
But then you have truly soul wrenching shit like I Kill Giants floating around out there where the hero doesn't win, and could never have won, and the only way to stop suffering is to accept that you're going to lose. THAT is dark.
>you can't merge 3 conflicting events of history. "Hyrule sunk but it did not".
That is literally what they did, though. At least one of the items you can pick up mentions the Great Flood.
my bad fellas. I heard "Power Rangers movie from a few years ago" and my brain went to the logical conclusion. Honestly forgot that thing existed
Hire a voice actor.
That was an amiibo item from using Toon Link's amiibo. Using optional gear not found in the game world doesn't count, that's purely fanservice, like the Fierce Deity gear.
That's fair enough, senpai. I honestly thought the actual theatrical movie was fun and quite good.
The only way posible. Pic related.
It got better.
That girl in the back is from Crypt of the Necrodancer, right?
1. Are you sure this is THE great flood that definitively turned Hyrule into New Londo, or just A great flood with no mention of the fallout?
And 2. Is this an important, or at least acknowledged by the story, reference, like Ruta references Ruto, or is it a reference for the sake pf it that has no bearing on anything like “Linebeck Hill”?
Yes
>That was an amiibo item from using Toon Link's amiibo.
Fairly certain other items mention it too, without the amiibo. There's also references to Ruto, various places and locations from entirely separate timelines, etc.
>Are you sure this is THE great flood that definitively turned Hyrule into New Londo, or just A great flood with no mention of the fallout?
The item that mentions it was tied to the Koroks IIRC. So it's a possibility.
As for the story? Probably not much. It's just a point of info .
Make him a stoic, somewhat socially maladapted wierdo with a heart of gold who speaks only when he has something to say, and does so in blunt and direct terms.
like pic related
No, that they mention is their worry that the water reservoir overflowing due to Vah Ruta's rampage COULD flood Hyrule, but they don't mention it happening before.
I did not know this existed. You are absolutely right, this is stupid.
This is from crypt of the necrodancers DLC, retard, nice job baiting literally everyone in the thread though
The few remaining old mods still hate furry shit
Did You know that if you hover your mouse over/tap on the black bars in a post, you can see text underneath?
>DLC
It's quite literally a new game. The only ties to Crypt are Cadence and its gameplay.
See man? I told you, I wasn't being faceteous, this is god damn stupid.
enjoy every game looking and playing exactly like kirbys epic yarn, faggot. zelda is a serious series with light comedy accents. if you want to play cute simple games, there are series for that. stop stealing other series and breaking them into being childrens games
that dork wants to do everything, riding off that castlevania high.
>Zelda
>serious
You're pretty clearly a dumbass.
Okay, I'll bite the bait.
Zelda was always for children, though?
Again, american seem to have this idea Ocarina was super realistic and gritty, when it was about as "gritty" as The Slayers.
I'm not saying every Zelda has to be Toon Link centric, but to say Zelda has to be grim and gritty is completely wrong. Zelda is not Castlevania nor Metroid.
clip studio paint?
compared to a mario or kirby game, yes
wait what, whats this crap?
Kirby has had way darker lore than Zelda for quite a while now, user.
zelda is much closer in tone to castlevania than it is to mario. the subject matter kind of demands a more realistic style or else it easily loses all weight, and becomes: chibi elf to the rescue.
Suddenly Microsoft and Nintendo are buddy buddies and MS's supported Indie games are happening on Switch. Cuphead for Switch and This is Cadence of Hyrule, a sequel to the MS Crypt of the Necromancer that crosses over with Zelda.
Nah, m8, it's completely Slayers in tone. Castlevania always has been inherently darker due it's horror roots.
Downfall Timeline Links are the best ones
Prove me wrong
Protip: you can’t
You’re both wrong. Zelda is closer to Fist of the North Star or Samurai Jack. The world is ravaged by evil and greed, but there is still good to be found if you are willing to fight to protect it.
See? This official artwork from Zelda 1 exemplifies it best. It does have a slight serious tone, you can see there's stakes in Link's determination. But it is NOT grimdark, it still has a whimsical flair. After all, he IS the beacon of hope.
I will concede this point to both Zelda 1, the Adult portion of OoT and BotW, since Hyrule is a shithole in those games like the world in HnK.
i dont play kirby games past snes, but as far as i understand there are just vague things like :
>whoah betrayal
>didnt expect a cute character to betray me
>vague things like shadow clones
idgaf
Basically in current kirby, it's pretty much confirmed Kirby's a god of ruin and despair.
>Netflix
Fuck off
thats fine. i dont want to draw a false dichotomy between super dark things and light things. i just want my cool dungeons in zelda
>He missed the game where a Xeno bug Queen gets corrupted into a Psychotic, megalomaniacal nutjob by a tainted artifact, a la 40k Slaaneshi corruption, and starts abducting and killing people left and right in her quest to become a goddess, before being stomped on rather brutally by the pink puffball.
I just want a Zelda cartoon to be a balance of cool action moments, heartfelt moments, a bit of comedy and some neat art direction. Oracle of Ages and Season is the best way to balance all.
NBCUniversal is planning to release a streaming service themselves so, again, if the Mario movie does well and Nintendo remain satisfied with their relationship with Universal, I can see Nintendo cartoons, Zelda or otherwise, going there rather than Netflix.
From the Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot and Star Allies alone;
>a once-benevolent queen ends up getting utterly corrupted by an ancient demonic artifact brought as a president by her boyfriend, and becomes a horrific vain dictator assimilating thousands of beings to eventually become a goddess. She is utterly obliterated by Kirby after she turns herself into a plantlike eldritch abomination
>a CEO of a space corporation who loses his daughter in a horrific accident, uses a cosmic space-cat clockwork star to try and bring her back. Is instead driven batshit insane by it, becomes a conquerer, and eventually has his very soul eaten by the mechanical abberation.
>Three girls try to kill themselves, are revived by kindly old wizard and are given magic powers, wizard gets exiled and is slowly but surely driven mad by the isolation, combined with being exposed to literal Super Satan and becomes cruel and abusive to the girls he wanted to protect. He even instructs them to put him out of his misery if it gets too bad
>The aforementioned Super Satan is also truly omniversal, and is essentially the source of the entire Kirby cosmology. Kirby himself is but a rogue benevolent fragment of it
Personally I’s prefer if it took a bit of the mood from Link to the Past. There’s something about seeing the world go to hell and turn against you, yet bravely pressing on in spite of it to fix it that’s damnably inspiring.
But speaking of humor, I love the Oracle of Seasons start for How unintentionally
Funny it is
>Link getting ready to lay an asswhooping on Onox
>realizing he forgot all his shit at home, and that all his amazing to die for magic artifacts like the titan gloves and the pegasus boots are collecting dust in his attic
>spend the next 6 dungeons beating the crap of out monsters with a wooden “sword” that is essentially just a baseball bat.
My personal theory is that the timelines don't literally converge, since that would be impossible. However after such a long time the same or similar events would happen in each timeline, and eventually result in world states that are largely indistinguishable, and that botw could be in any of them.
Like the finer details and order of events would be different, but by the time of botw takes place no one can remember those anyway.
>However after such a long time the same or similar events would happen in each timeline, and eventually result in world states that are largely indistinguishable, and that botw could be in any of them.
I doubt even the passage of time could blur the lines between “A mssive Flood destroyed the kingdom” and “A massive flood didn’t destroy the kingdom”
Regardless, it really does destroy the identity of and point of having multiple timelines if their continuities can be hand waved away just like that. Might as well not even bother at that point.
A Zelda cartoon should just be an animated adaptation of the Link's Awakening manga.
The flood occurring, and then being drained and the kingdom being rebuilt, would be one of those "same events in a different order" things I mentioned. While the reason for it happening would be the part forgotten to time.
agreed
>It was all a dream
NO
>But seriously, do you think we'll ever get a good LoZ cartoon?
Well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess.
Video games being adapted in animated formats always interests me more than original shows for some reason
That's why Op asked for a good cartoon.
man, Link got denied of his LITERAL dream waifu.
>Again, american seem to have this idea Ocarina was super realistic and gritty, when it was about as "gritty" as The Slayers.
Exactly, and Wind Waker came along and threw that away and replaced it with Hello Kitty. Then when you say you don't like Hello Kitty, Aonuma throws a shitfit and goes FINE and instead of giving you Slayers gives you Goblin Slayer. And he'll never give you Slayers ever again because he personally hates it and prefers Hello Kitty.
Skyward Sword and BotW were surprisingly close to Slayers though, but went on a more Ghibli direction.
I'd rather have them take the broad strokes from Link to the Past with some elements from BotW and Ocarina.
>zelda is kidnapped for the whole show but basically acts as a companion because of her telepathy
>Ganondorf of the Gerudo and his buddy Agahnim are the villains of the first half
>Link gets help from a fish man/woman, a bird person, etc
>Ganondorf retreats to the Dark World after being defeated
maybe have Zelda be freed here but stripped of her Triforce, so she teams up with Link to get some moon pearls and go to the Dark World to fuck up Ganon (who lacks a moon pearl and transforms into a pigman)
They made it back in 1989 though. It's on youtube now, OP can watch it.
Keep him quiet and fairly stoic and give him a companion that does the talking and expressing for him, like a Midna
Nah, just make him his own character. Awful companions like Midna ruin the games, it'd ruin a show even more.
>do you think we'll ever get a good LoZ cartoon?
I think we'll get some sort of Zelda adaptation, be it a movie or show, at some point. It's the next logical step with expanding into different markets like they said they want to do. As for being good who knows
>we will jever see the Links cross over
>Only Link Team up we get was in TP, and One of them was quite literally a ghost of his former self.
Isn't it nice to know that the Hero of Time was so filled with shame and regret over every decision he made that he couldn't move on to the afterlife?
The filler episodes could be Link doing some arbitrary sidequest for an item that he could make use of later in the series. Man, a show has so much potential.
Can’t wait to see that hunk of a beast Ganondorf
yeah cant wait for link the twink images
Not every decision. He was just pissed off he couldn't pass his techniques or be remembered as the hero he truly was. He went through fucking Dead Hand TWICE man, no other Link has gone through Dead Hand even once.
Time suffered the most, even though he didn’t deserve it.
